Keys and all those damn keychains

Back when I owned a Blazer I learned the hardway about having too much on my keyring, especially when having the key in the ignition. Now someone I work with is starting to have that problem, and thinks I am crazy when I told him to get all that crap of his key ring. It easily weight a pound if not more.

Am I the only one that knows about this?

I keep my key and the remote transmitter, with this little light too on the key ring.. I keep my house keys separated, which adds another benefit of not having to take the keys out when i get the mail. i used to keep them on the same key chain, and i probably still would if i didn't live as far from the mailbox area.. it's not that far, but when i drop by to get the mail sometimes when i'm coming home, it's easier not to shut off the engine..

I don't keep a lot on my key ring anyways, i wouldn't carry a lot, I've seen some damage happen with a lot of keys..

I also don't use a metal key fob anymore due to the immobilizer keys..

Yep, this has been a known issue for a long time. Fords used to be especially prone to problems because of this. The weight of a big ring of keys is more than most lock mechanisims are designed to support. Eventually the cylinder gets loose and either won't turn or won't make electrical contact, depending on how it fails.

Not to mention the damage you can do to your dash, or yourself if you ever lose balance and fall on the suckers. :bugeye:

I wound up with a huge bruse on my **s a few years ago because of an icy spot and a few too many beers.

True, but I fell on the keys (they were in my back pocket) which made things even worse than they already were.
