Keys are annoying!!!

Newbie question......I have searched all through this forum and have not seen this issue addressed so maybe it's just me:confused: When driving the vehicle the keys on my keychain (only the keypad and my house key) bang against the dash. On my previous vehicle the ignition was on the steering column so the keys swung freely without banging on anything. The Sport 05 has the ignition on the dash. Does anyone else find this annoying?????

Doesn't bother me at all. At least the wheels don't fall off or the truck doesn't burst into a ball of flame because cruise control malfunctions...

I guess I never saw it as an "issue." Doesn't seem to be much different than other vehicles to be honest....

I do have a problem with the alarm buttons on the fob.
When I put the keys in my pocket most of the time the key ring pushes on one of the buttons and either re-locks the truck or un-locks it.

It also happens when I reach in to get some change.

I would like the buttons to be on the key like my wifes RX330. jNo fob required there.

Here, problem solved.. I was also annoyed by the noise of the keys hitting the dash, and eventually, it will mark the dash.

Buy some adhesive backed felt pads at Home Depot. Cut them to fit the contours of the dash, wherever the keys are hitting.

Not to offend you... but you leave that in your car. Kinda ugly.

does anybody else think so or is it just mee. It just lokks so out of place, especially the brown

That does not solve my problem. The Remote control will bump with my another key (office key). It is still noisy.

One guy I know of show me his LS430. He started his car with key in his pocket. Doors were unlocked when he approached the car. I still like my 4Runner on the move. Full speed ahead!

Maybe we have some hope for that system in our 4Runner's a few years down the road. The new Avalon's now have that push button start system, where the doors will unlock and the car will start as long as the key is in your pocket. I think it is probably wishful thinking though! :(

I agree that it could get annoying when the keys hit the dashboard. I think part of the reason is that the cabin is just so darn quiet so you hear everything!

Try turning the ignition key around 180d (2 different positions) when you insert it. This will rearrange the order of items on the keyring and the problem may fix itself. Worked for me.

I prefer having the ignition on the dash rather than on the steering column. It make it easier to see.

I keep two sets of keys: one with just the 4Runner's key and fob; and a second keychain with all my other keys; JumpDrive; SecurID; and grocery store/OfficeDepot/OfficeMax membership tags.

I haven't had a problem with the keyfob hitting the dash while driving (at least, I haven't noticed).

The less keys you have.. the less they will make a noise.

Key ring - T4R key, T4R fob, Esso Speedpass fob, and a little LED photon light.

Yep...when off-road the banging of keys is annoying.

Of course, I don't think your meant to carry a bunch of keys from the ignition switch as it puts weight on the key and thereby the lock pins inside the switch. I've been told its bad to have heavy keys hanging from the switch (but do I listen ;): )

It's invisible

That's the flash really brightening that area. It's actually quite invisible from the drivers seat, and I don't know anyone who stares at the interior space of a car while being a passenger. If they had gray felt, then I would have used gray, and if I accidentally find gray someday, I can easily change it.

As far as the mats being muddy, well, I make no excuses, it's still winter here, they will get blasted at the car wash when the time comes this spring. I don't watch my mats while driving either. :p

At least my keys don't jingle. :D

If the keys hitting the dash are not the issue, then put small thin flaps of leather between each key on the ring.

I completely agree. Toyota should have designed a special shape for the key that could keep the remote control from hitting the dash.

Most european manufacturers take this in consideration when designing the key.

i received several keys when i bought my runner. i just keep a single key in the truck at all times. i use the keys on my key chain to get in the truck then i just grab the single key, throw it in the ignition and away i go. no noise ever!

That may not be a bad idea.
Remember the old movie,
Ladies can always find a key behind the sun visor.
Gentlemen are not so lucky. They have to pull out wires to fire it.

"Are you looking for this..." then the movie goes into R-rated.:o
