That's a second gen... There is one local to me for about 9k. I almost bought the same thing but in the 1st gen version but I read about the 2L turbo motors and that they weren't that great and I got scared..

3rd gen years ran from 1996-2002.

Yes. the Hilux surf is not the same exact as a 4runner, it's the 4runner "equal" in Japan. They come with weird stuff like that.

It's for parallel parking a LHD car. Seen a lot on jdm versions of vehicles.

With that mirror, you can see the passenger front tire area so you don't hit anything. The newer models have 2 mirrors, one to see the side and one to see the front.

I have that exact front bumper waiting and I'll be installing it to my 3rd gen soon, hopefully in July.

Like others have said, it's a 2nd gen. But it's pretty sweet! Personally though, it's way more of a novelty and are you willing to pay anywhere near $16k for a novelty? The 2.4l diesel was a pig even when comparing it to the 3.slow.

Absurd. 16k will buy a later model low mileage 4th gen 4.7L. If I had 16k to just blow, it would go to a clean 94-97 fj80

If you can find one with front and rear factory lockers you won't even have to through money at it. It will already be a beast. I'm looking for one right now actually. lol

I've never understood why people complain about how slow the diesel would be compared to the 3.whatever, the reason why you would buy a diesel 4runner is to get better gas mileage to take longer trips. I would totally do that to my 99 4runner, that will be a modification I will gladly spend $15k-20K:surfer:

Exactly. If having a 2nd gen 4Runner with decent gas mileage was your aim, there are far cheaper options to swap in there. Not to mention better options when it comes to parts available within the states.

So that means you want it for what it is and what it represents. Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Not my money. If someone wants one that bad, then it will come at a premium due to the logistics of getting one here and the numbers that are around.

As a former garbage man, I don't mind driving from the passenger side — but I'll be damnned if I am going to row through gears all day with my left hand.

On the bright-side however, it would even out my "truckers tan".

Not JDM but the best swap would be the 1.9L TDI swap. My other vehicle is a 2003 Jetta TDI. I think about ripping that motor out and dropping it in my rig all the time. Would it be easy, no. Would it be cheap, no. Would it be bad ass, yes. lol
