I can't get ahold of the fella with the Budbuilt now, so I guess I'll be finding out what it's like wheeling a manual with a stock transfer case anyway.
Took her out for a spin this morning, and as expected, the 5.29s and 33s leave some top speed on the table. The tach shows roughly 3200 RPM at 75 mph, and that's about as far as I want to push it. On long distance drives, I'll probably even keep it under 3000. But it's smooth at that speed, the OME shocks and springs keep it planted on the road even with the tall sidewalls and relatively low PSI I'm running in the KM2s. And it's nice being able to accelerate in fourth gear, that's a new one.
Having a Spartan behind the manual is much different than behind my old automatic. I barely knew it was there in my '86, but it's a little more assertive in this new '85. Not undriveable by any means, but noticeable enough that I may decide to put an elocker in the rear before I lock the front. I blame the difference between a nice strong clutch in the manual and the viscous coupling in the automatic.

Holy bejeezus but these OMEs are flexy. Did I say I had enough room in front? I was wrong. Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong.
The KM2s tore the liners out of both sides today and started ripping one of the fenders off. I need to throw on longer bump stops, and then I need to work on trimming these fenders. Maybe I'll just spring for Slacker's fenders right now and worry about the quarters later.

i know the feeling. i just got my new body on my 85 frame. now my tires rub again lol. km2's are a little expensive to be scaren up like i do....

so how do you rank your front suspension? mine is a little stiff so OME is one option i'm considering for the future. can you get them offset or are they stock replacement only?

They're stock length. I don't have a lot to compare them to, other than the IFS on my '86 and the completely shot stock packs I replaced, but I like 'em. They're a little stiff on the road, enough that you know you're driving a truck for sure, but I can push the truck to 75 on the interstate and they keep it planted. Offroad, they're a dream. Most flexy suspensions are so soft that you feel like you're driving a bowl of jello when you start articulating - these are great on the rough stuff.
I may put my sway bar back in with some disconnects - the height is enough that I get some uncomfortable body roll if I get a little too excited on the corners.
Thanks. I wasn't sure if this was my truck for a while, but it's starting to grow on me.

I do want another IFS to turn into a desert basher and use as a daily driver, but I can't have another project right now.

I'm going to finish it with some of that black plastic trim you can get at Autozone, and it still won't be the prettiest, but it won't tear up my tires either. It'll do until I get around to ordering some fiberglass.
