Nice swing down carrier. I see a future swing out carrier after countless lifting on the swing down. I think that is a reason you don't see the swing downs to often.
I bet you could still keep the mount the same and make it swing left or right and latched to the bumper

That's the plan, I actually have the latch and spindle kicking around the bottom of my toolbox. I don't have the time to invest in building the bumper and swingout I'd prefer, so this'll do until later.

I've been destroyed by the flu for the past week. Felt good enough to wheel Saturday, sat on my butt all day yesterday, and found some time to get back to this today. Then I ran out of wire, so not done yet.

I think my welds are getting better. They're not as clean as SV_Dude's, but they're getting there.

Yup, Lincoln 100 with flux core.

That's pretty darn good for a flux weld. Can your lincoln weld with gas or is it strictly flux? Gas will weld better but that flux weld is a pretty good weld. You're not going to get a whole lot better than that with flux.

I appreciate the compliment, thanks! Lincoln sells a kit to adapt it to gas. I haven't bought it because I understand that flux core penetrates slightly better. This is 3/16 and 1/4 inch steel and I think it's probably at the limit of my current setup?

The chart on the inside of my miller 140 says that when I weld 3/16 I should use flux as well but I welded the 3/16 sliders with gas using 75/25 mix and .030 wire. It penetrated just fine using a single pass. I'm not very familiar with flux welding but if it's a strong weld then I don't see anything wrong with it. The only reason I wanted gas was because it makes a cleaner weld with less splatter. I didn't want any splatter because sometimes I weld near things that I don't want to get burnt. I do want a more powerful machine but I think if I get another welder for anything heavier than 3/16 I'll get a stick welder.

I think my next project for fabrication will be a welding cart, my high tech cardboard box that was holding my welder isn't gonna last forever. I also want to build a welding table too.

Another thing you may consider doing is cleaning your metal a little more before starting your welds. Use a flapper disc on your material and get it nice and shiny first.
