So I'm trying to get the Skittle to pass emissions and buy me some time. When I did the valves, I cheated and set them cold at 7 and 11, and it still sounded like crap. So I decided to do it right while the motor was nice and hot (which I hate, because I always burn the crap out of myself). Pulled into the driveway with my new plugs and wires and such fresh from the parts store, jumped and out and set all my tools out real quick. Then I cracked the hood, removed the necessary vacuum hoses and switches and crap in about 3 minutes flat (I'm getting good at that part), and pulled the valve cover ready to dive in.
And coughed.
From all the exhaust smoke that billowed out.
That's never happened before.
I did the valves again anyway. They weren't far off, I only had to adjust three of them, and not very much. I'm going to operate under the assumption that this is a cracked valve or bad seal, and just stop wasting time on the Skittle.
Did I mention I'm building a new motor? Time to get to it.

my truck looks so good but... I dunno. it just feels too old inside and I can't stand it anymore. and I'm getting 12mpg. but she's so pretty... have been looking and saving for an 02-04 WJ with the 4.7HO.
The only thing redeeming is a solid axle. Huge downgrade overall I feel, but I have ALWAYS wanted one. always. Interior upgrade for sure. it's a daily. I have 5 cars.
I promise to go wheeling more often though Kevin.

Yup, '97 3RZ-FE. $950 got me the motor and almost everything I'll need to complete the swap, I freaking scored.
What I've got -
Complete 3RZ longblock
Rear sump T100 oil pan
ECU
W58 bellhousing, clutch, flywheel, etc.
Complete 3RZ engine harness, most of the dash harness (some stuff is cut but I haven't identified what yet).
What know I'm missing to complete the swap
Power steering pump (and hoses)
Clutch slave and fork (I might be able to reuse mine, haven't done that research yet)
Starter
Radiator hoses
Injectors
I'll update the thread if/when I run into other stuff the swap needs that I discover I don't have. Right now the goal is to get the motor on the stand, pull the pan and check the bearings, and I'm going to see if I can put the bellhousing on and hook up a starter and check the compression. I haven't heard this thing run and have no idea how many miles it has on it, but good bearings + good compression = me not bothering to tear the entire motor down before I install it. I might get lucky, we'll see.

ive driven a few trucks with that engine, its impressive for a 4cyl.
id be interested in a swap like that, but I really like a v8

Yeah, we'll see. I'm not holding my breath.
You know what I like, though? This motor doesn't appear to have much in the way of vacuum lines at all. I was worried that was going to be a big mess, but I should be able to figure them out without too much grief.

Electrical is likely where you come in, yeah
. As far as I can tell so far, all I need to do is tie my cluster into the donor dash harness, and I can ignore everything else. But I'd love to get your input when it comes time to doing that.Pretty much, I found it in the classifieds on the local wheeling board.

with pleasure. I wired an entire Porsche with an aftermarket ecm. I think I can handle this
