KidV's 1985 4Runner

The upper plenum got in a fight with the heater valve - the nipple for the rear heater hose on the valve got in the way, so the rear heat is bypassed. I looped the two lines going to the rear heater so crap wouldn't get in them, and replaced the valve on the firewall with one from a truck without rear heat. I guess I don't need to stress about the rear heat console getting in the way of my (eventual) duals shifter now.

that sucks. one of the things I miss the most on my 06 is no rear heat. that is a deal breaker for me I think. when I finally convert my 85 over as a trail rig, im going to do what I can to keep the rear heat.

To be specific, it's the egr stuff on the back of the plenum that interferes. I don't imagine a dedicated trail truck would have that concern... ;)

Crap we might have to do it Thursday. I just got about 10 hours of work due in the morning again. >:|

Edit: shouldn't stop it from running if you get that pump in though!

dang your so close! i'm amazed how quick you've turned this thing around, i helped a buddy do a 3.0 to 3.4 swap, which is supposed to be one of the easiest ones and it took us several months

Sooooo is it running?

Enquiringly minds want to know!

:couch2:

Nope. It won't start, and we think it's trouble in the engine harness - one of the previous owners hacked off some "unnecessary" wiring that turns out to maybe have been necessary after all? There's one yard in town that theoretically has an uncut harness I can use, but they won't be open until Monday.

The Bastard is not going to Moab this time. Sadface.

I was excited to see pictures of it there!!

We have learned two things - don't try to convert an auto harness to work with a manual PCM and don't buy someone else's half-done shit.

It sucks. I wanted to make it run and see it there as well. But with a new harness we should be good.

You still have 4 days!!!!

Sorry the previous owner of your wiring harness was a hack. After seeing and hearing of the issues you've found while working with it, a new, unmolested harness should solve the problem.

You could pull the entire harness out of the truck, unwrap it, and go over it wire-by-wire replacing wires and connectors as you go, but that would be a lot like work.

Better to get the new harness that hasn't been attacked by an amateur "Automotive Electrician".

Exactly. It'd be just as easy to build a harness from scratch as it would be to go through this one and repair all the shiners and figure out what's missing and what's pinned wrong. I'll head down to the wrecking yard Monday morning and see what they've got, and if I don't like it I'll send some more business @%1;'s way.

I've learned a huge lesson though - I'll never do another swap without a complete and unmolested donor vehicle in front of me. Buying a half-assembled swap was a huge mistake. What I thought was a bargain has turned out to cost me much more effort and money in the long run.

Well kid, i had to learn the same lesson. buying a "complete" engine off a guys garage floor resulted in months of hunting for missing parts at scrap yards and ebay.... never again! sorry to hear of your troubles, are you taking your wife's rig to moab?

:thumb3:
once it's got a couple dents...what's a few more? do i foresee a built 3rd gen in the future?
