Well, I have an automatic locker in the front diff of my Suzuki Samurai (no power steering) and I can tell you it is heavy as hell on the trail. Not sure if with PS it would be better.

I'm looking forward to a good review on the 2.7, I'm struggling with the decision of which engine to swap in mine. I have a good 1UZ, but the cost to finish the swap is ridiculous, maybe a 2.7 would be the way to go? I'm hoping you get it running soon, good weather is almost here!

Oh, you know, excuses. Working two jobs, trying to build a new garage, plus the normal family stuff, this poor truck is about five burners back.
I might end up swallowing my pride and taking it to a shop. I just have zero time to work on it right now.

if you still have the factory engine harness, you should just buy an ORS wiring harness for it... plug and plan! way cheaper than paying a shop!

I might do that. $600 is still a chunk of change, I might look around and see if I can find a local guy working on the side who wants $300 or $400 instead. It's not like I need the entire swap done, just the harness, so that might work out.

Couldn't tell you. He had some things going on several months ago and kinda fell off the face of the earth, and I haven't been able to get ahold of him since.

Donor: 1995 Tacoma, 3RZ, W59, Fed. (could be a '96, I have no way of knowing, it's the early 3RZ with distributor).

Give these guys a call, they do this swap all the time and have been very helpful to me. They may offer the conversion harness you need.

Toyonlyswaps and ORI have conversion harnesses too, they run $600 or so. That's almost my new front axle, so I think I'm going to give it a swing myself first.
So. New plan, I'm going to quit screwing around with the Megasquirt and just run the stock ECU. I have a '95 computer and what I think is a '96 harness. I need to get the wiring diagram for the '96, and look to see if the pins are the same on the ECU, I'll probably have to repin one or two things, if they're too different I'll just pick up a '96 computer. I need to look into the antitheft and see if there's anything there to defeat, and I need to find out if the ECU is dependant on the Tacoma's VSS to run. If so I'll have to figure out how to spoof that signal. I'm sure I'll run into other things that need jimmied, but at least I'll have a roadmap to follow instead of trying to break new ground.
