KidV's 1985 4Runner

Yesterday I was wrenching in the driveway wearing shorts and a tshirt. Today I will not be wrenching.

Heh, glad I'm not the only one doing wiring! Need to redo my harness too, but for the supra, not the truck:

Unfortunately, nobody's making wiring harnesses for an '85 supra, so I'll be doing it myself.

I'll trade you right now, but you gotta throw in the garage.

LOL!

All we got was some crappy wet snow last night, I decided to send it all down to ya!

If you were closer, I'd let ya use the shop! Its nice to have central heat in the shop when its cold!!!:behindsofa:

What part of UT you in anyways?

I'll be really glad when this stops being "KidV's repair thread" and starts being "KidV's build thread".

First, a public safety announcement:

NEVER EVER TRUST A HIGHLIFT

I guess I didn't have it straight up and down, because the bottom kicked out away from the tire. Luckily I have another fender, and I was planning on painting the whole truck a rattlecan grey once I repair the rear fenders anyway, so this is not horrible. Scary, yes. Don't trust the highlift, people, it will eat your face.

I don't know if this engine ground was making the truck run worse, but it sure wasn't making it run any better. I'm much happier with it's 6ga replacement. Once I'm done with the have-to-fix's and can get on the want-to-upgrade's, I'll replace the entire battery cable system.

I have only had a highlift fall once when someone bumped the truck and knocked it off. If you jack from a slider and put a big plate on the bottom you will be fine

I just do alot of trail driving and my floor jack that I use on road now doesn't work off road

Sorry, I worded that poorly. I love my hilift, I don't hit dirt without it. I just meant I'll never take it for granted, no matter how safe I think my setup is. The hilift is evil and will swallow your soul if you let it.

Very true but that said you should have a larger foot made up for the bottom. That makes it slitely less evil

Kevin - glad to see you're still sticking with it. I never could follow through with my own.

Yeah last year sucked. Sorry I could never get that thing figured out. I never did get much time or energy to figure out exactly how megasquirt works. I have to make it up to you somehow. Something about it still doesn't make sense though.

I'll tell you what I've learned. If the option is there, just go for the known method. Conversions are not cheap. And someone that does three of these a day will know what they're doing. I hope with the new harness the Bastard starts. I found a harness boot from your truck the other day.

Mike, you're alive! Hope things are better for you, I know that was a rough patch you hit. Hit me up when you've got some time, let's hang out. If nothing else I need to give you your Megasquirt back.

Lots of things about this swap haven't made sense, it's because I didn't start with a complete motor. That's what I'VE learned, start with a running donor truck. :D

You can keep it man, throw it on a shelf for when you wanna get crazy or try to sell it maybe.

That very well may be the issue.

Time is limited lately, I'm shop manager now and usually end up 11 or 12 hours every day. Weekends are free sometimes. We'll have to get together sometime though.

Okay, gotta ask, which version of MS is it? I might be interested in it for my supra.

May have to drive out to SLC and pick that AND that dashboard of yours up!!!!

ROADTRIP!!!!! :car:

MS1 with a Zeal daughterboard. If Mike doesn't want it back I might be interested in selling it, I don't think I'll get into using it any time soon.

Cool! I'll have to see if that version is either upgradable or usabel as-is for my supra. Toyotas seem to be very picky when it comes to MS!

I'll try to figure it out by the end of this week.

Kevin, are you ever gonna get this thing running? Or is it already running and I skipped 73 pages? I remember a bunch of wiring stuff on previous pages.

The Bastard is sitting on the side of my house patiently waiting its turn. One of these months I won't be attacked by real life and I'll have a minute to get it running again.

Only way I can lift my truck up in the garage is with a hi lift. I use jack stands after its up tho

do you still have this truck? what's the status on the 3rz swap? i might be interested in the motor if you're giving up..... though i hope that's not the case!

It's 98% done, I just haven't gotten around to finishing it. Too many chores, too many other hobbies. I'm wobbling back and forth between paying somebody to finish it or just parting it out, wanna make up my mind for me?
