Kinda rude reply from Partznet....

I contacted them about their grilles, said someone here claimed they bought a color keyed grille for $78, but their site showed $135. I asked if the other guy got some sort of discount by being a member here, or what, and if I could get one at that price, or would it be the price listed on the site for $135.

Fairly tame question, just trying to find out if there was a T4R.org discount or something or if the guy was just blowing smoke up my kiester really, hoping they would just say something like yeah you guys get a discount yadda yadda just gotta mention you're a member, or no not sure where he came up with that but we dont sell them at that price, the listed price is the correct one blah blah. No, I got a pretty smartass email back from them, here it is......

No you can not get it for $78.00 .I pay more than that to get the part . I can not sell parts at a loss. Very bad business sir .

I dont need to know what he pays for it, if that price is at a loss, or how good or bad it would be for business. Just really needed to hear something similar to the above examples, something polite and informative, not this snotty little sentence.

Am I being too picky?? Anyway, I'll just go to my dealership tomorrow and order one full price, Partznet can stuff their grille where the sun dont shine, even if it's ten buck cheaper.

I've never dealt with partznet before but, it seems like the guy is just telling you the truth. It doesn't sound like a rude remark to me.

This is always an issue when you're writing something compared to face to face conversation. The tone is almost always misinterpreted.

I agree that tone is often misinterpreted in written communications, but on the other hand, a simple, "No, I'm sorry, but my lowest selling price is $x." would have been a better response.

Face-to-face, I've gotten into squabbles with sales people who start telling me what their cost is and assume I know nothing about the business of selling things. Regardless of who's right or wrong, that sort of discussion just leads to people getting mad at each other. If the buyer thinks you're giving them BS about the selling price, they'll never believe you're telling the truth about your cost, so there's no point wasting your breath. And no buyer is so unrealistic as to expect you to sell something at a loss, so being condescending just gets them more aggravated. It's a no-win situation that doesn't result in a happy seller or a happy buyer.

I guess you're right. Maybe I just see it as kinda rude because as a mechanic and someone who deals with the public on a daily basis myself, I try to make an effort to not seem rude or short with people. I put a little thought into how I word things to customers to help convey that I am happy to help them, so it doesnt sound like Im taking a big sigh as I roll my eyes and type a snotty response sorta thing. He could have had no intention of being rude but I just percieved it that way.

I may contact them again if I need something else down the road, but I dont think I will for a while. I'm willing to give a business another chance, unless they just royally rape me on something lol.

The response is a bit blunt, but not too rude...i have heard worst over the net and face-to-face.:D

I would also other places over the net. I am sure that you can find one at a reasonable price.

I've searched all over for 06 grilles and accessories, not much available yet it seems. I'd kill for a Street Scene Polished Aluminum Speed Grille Insert Kit, but they dont make em. The 05's and below have them, but not the 06 and up. Tons of billet grilles though, but I dont like billet grilles lol.

I'll just stick with my local stealership, unless someone else knows of a link to a cheaper price to get the grille shell other than Partznet?? I really didnt think 150 from the dealer was all that bad for a grille shell, but if I can get it significantly cheaper I'd be happy to give it a whirl lol. Still plan to go tomorrow and order it if I have the time, if not then Monday. I only put it off to see what PN had to say, and that was a waste of time

I usually buy my Toyota parts from my dealer.

Plus I dont have to pay for shipping

Plus I can open the box on the spot to see if its the right thing , if not I just hand it back to him.

I dont mind paying a little more for the service and the nice people.

I have to agree with you, RamThis. That statement was very rude. I have worked in customer service fields all my life. Why I think it is so rude.
1. He didn't answer your question. Do members of this forum get a discount? If he couldn't give it to you for $78.00 at least you would have known for this purchase and furture purchases if you will be getting a discount and how much.
2."I pay more than that to get the part . I can not sell parts at a loss. Very bad business sir." As a customer I don't care how much you paid for the part, just tell me you can't sell it for $78.00, but can do a x amount discount or the $135.00 is your lowest price. Get to the point and stop wasting my time with information I don't need to know.
To me, his attitude is bad business for his company.

Have you contacted Jason B? I have asked him a million questions and he is always courteous and informative. He is real good about getting parts.

I think it's the last part that makes it such poor customer relations...."Very bad business sir ".

That statement is just plain mean.

I would just send back a copy of his response to the company. Whether or not he was having a bad day, he needs to keep in mind that anything in writing has a lasting effect.

[Mention you posted the response.]

Partznet is an enigma. Sometimes they do nutty things. Long ago they shorted me on a oil filter order but I didn't catch it until a month later when I opened the bulk pack box. They did promptly corrected their mistake but Steve then made a separate phone call just to chide me for not finding the mistake sooner. It really pissed me off.

Apparently not very business savvy. If one is trying to be cute in e-mail then an emoticon might help

Good it's not just me that it rubbed the wrong way..... :nono:

And emoticons do help convey the demeanor of what you are writing, so as to help differentiate between just ribbing someone, or downright tearing them a new one..... ;):

ive had a bad experience with them so im not buying from them ever again.

you would be suprised how many people here have had bad experiences with that store...

At least the were upfront with their low standards of business instead of me actually giving them my money only to find out later they are jerks lol. So I consider myself lucky in that respect. :bigok:
