King Suspension Rear Long Travel

Anyone on here tackle this yet? Trying to get info to them on measurements to achieve long travel. Not the easiest without a lift/fork lift. My best guess was 27" from top of shock mount to middle of bolt at the bottom of the shock, when at full extention.

Wanted to see if anyone has done this setup yet, info seems to be pretty low on this.

Talk to King and ask if they will build you a Metaltech spec long travel shock. Chances are they could or could get pretty close. I have no idea what the price might be though. Could do a group buy maybe?

Already in process with them. Problem is all shocks are made differently. One shock that = 11.5" of travel doesn't = the same for another manufacturer.
I will let everyone know how the install goes and see if they will help out in cost. For the most part the custom shock from them isn't a huge cost increase. King just does custom, anything you want made they will do it, ya just need to know what you want (the tricky part).

I just ordered 10" king bypasses to make mounts for in the rear. 18"/28" are the measurements.

I'll keep my build thread updated with it once I get them and build the mounts. You can buy a 8" or 10" stroke King with a stem top mount adapter if you'd like but it's won't have a ton of room unless you're lifted 3" or more for clearance on the shock body. That's why I went 10" and custom mounts.

You may be able to custom order them with a stem top but they'll push you to a standard cap and a stem adapter.

It fully depends how lifted in the rear you are. I'm only 2" and my ride measurement is 22". From shock mount to mount. I went with 10" kings because I don't want the lowers hanging below the brakes like some do when they go to 12". Because I have extended bump stops and set my compression limits I can mount the shocks however I want to really.

But yes you're pretty much limited by that stem top. You may be able to do an 8" stroke with a stem adapter and it might fit. Would have to do measurements. You could even get a +1-2" rod end so you can fit your measurement better.

So, just a quick update. I have been working with Total Automotive to provide a long travel kit for 4th Gens. Been a long process, mainly due to the terrible group buy going on. Anyways Richard over at Total Automotive has been totally awesome to work with. Going to have King custom make the rear shocks to match the Metal Tech setup for the rears and then king has shocks valves to run with the TC setup in the front (going to run 700lb coils). Just placed the order for everything today. Should have all parts within the month. I will try to take some photos of the install and obviously keep everyone updated on how it all turns out. If this turns out great then I think this may just be the best kit you can buy to turn your 4th gen into a long travel machine!!
Just to follow up with the rear suspension. King said they can make it work with the stock mounting so no need to fab up any mounts. They didn't try to push their other std shocks so fingers crossed it all sorts itself out. Going to be a fun install either way!!

The Icon hate is real!...

You can get Radflos in the MT LT spec too.

You can also have Icon (maybe others too) build you MT spec twin tube bypass remote resi shocks for the rear.

Not sure I follow, I have nothing against Icon, just the guy running the group buy. Totally fell through and extremely unresponsive (you would think 5k worth of product would of been incentive...)
I am getting King to hook it up with remote resi's with clicker adjusters and custom length shocks to mimic the travel of the Icon setup that is in Metal Tech's kit. To be honest I would of gone with Icon if I knew they had a setup/kit that was made for the TC 'mid travel' kit in the front. And maybe they do but I haven't seen anyone run anything other than Kings there.

If you're running a body lift and handy with some welding/fab skills, you could also modify the rear upper shock mounts to sit higher up off the frame. That'd buy you some more space to stuff a LT shock in there.

I was just stirring the pot (somebody has to). Any coilover will work just fine with any UCA. And icon does have extended travel coilovers too.

Actually you are completely wrong. Would research your comment before ya post this stuff publicly. You do not put a long travel setup with a 'normal uca'. Total chaos makes their kits for a reason man. Extended travel and long travel are two totally different things. You can run an extended travel coilover with a standard Total chaos uca and your oem lca. Long travel or mid travel are jumping into a whole different game. To do long travel in your front suspension you have to increase your track width to accomodate for the extra travel. You need longer axles, longer tie rods (extensions), drop your bump stops and bigger lca's and uca's. Do some googlin on what the difference is between extended travel and long travel.

I was replying to your previous statement about Icon not making a kit made for the Total Chaos 'mid travel' UCA. FYI, 'Mid travel' is the same as 'extended travel'.

You are correct in that I wasn't very specific in what I said about any coilover working with any UCA. Long travel parts won't work with standard travel parts. Thought that was obvious and didn't want to confuse you by mentioning unrelevant information. So are you getting the 'long travel' or the 'mid travel' coilover?

And believe me, I research a lot :ranger:

King doesn't really make anything std so for the most part it is all made to order. Unless you go with there OEM line that is. They are making a long travel shock that will mimick what is done with MT's setup with Icon. From my understanding they hadn't done this yet. At least they led me to believe that I needed to get specific dimensions to them to accomplish this. I worked with Total Automotive on this setup so you can go to their website now and find what we put together.

This is the kit I got: 86002-R-King-CDC-700-MT - Total Chaos Complete LT Kits - Total Automotive Performance - Your Source for Auto Parts and Accessories
You will need to pick up all the necessary parts (i.e. Coils, trailing arms, extended brake lines, bump stop extensions) to complete the long travel in the rear. This only provides the king shocks to match the length of the icon long travel from Metal Tech's setup.

Definitely would recommend calling them first to fully understand what all is in the kit. They aren't the best at describing all that is in it.

Well here are a few photos of some recent trips to Moab. Super happy with the travel. Yes with any mod there is almost always a downside.

I'm not running sway bars and must say it drives terribly. Need to look into some aftermarket deal for the rear at the minimum. My driveshaft hits my RCI gas tank skid pretty badly even after modifying it for more clearance. Other than that the thing rides like butter on those faster trails. I personally love the adjustability in the resi's. I use them every single time I go wheeling.
