Kitchen Halogen 20W 12v bulbs

I replaced my kitchen lite about 6 moths ago. $100-125. 5 x 20W bulbs. About 3 have died so far. Replacements are Home Depot or Lowe's. 5000 hours? I not getting 5 months. Any ideas? using latex gloves. thanks.

Even though you're wearing gloves try wiping them with a clean rag and rubbing alcohol prior to closing the fixture.

Is it on a dimmer circuit? If it's the type of switch that goes on/off with the dimmer in a constant position try turning it on and off with the dimmer at less than 'full bright'.
