KO2 275/70/17 Colorado

Hey everyone, I am looking to get a set of BFG Ko2's in 275/70/17 on my stock non lifted 17 SR5P. As we all know the 5th gen 4runner is not the most powerful machine. With that being said I have read some reviews that running that size tire has a noticeable power decrease. I currently live in Denver and make trips up to the mountain on a fairly regular basis. My 4runner struggles now on the stock tires to get up the mountain. Anyone in Colorado running these size tires on their rig? Is the change that noticeable?

The reason I stayed stock size with my KO2 is because the 275 KO2 is only available in E rating and thus they are 56 lbs each as opposed to the C rated 46 lb 265 size. The extra weight wasn't worth the very minimal size gain.

I drive in the CO mountains all the time. I do just fine on I-70 once I got over my fear of putting the pedal down and letting it rev up on the long hills. Go ahead and push those RPMs up! The 4Runner loves it and that's where the power is. Of course off road is different, but that's not usually where people complain about the 4R mountain driving power.

Lo you know exactly what I'm talking about. I hear E makes the ride very stiff. Maybe I will just stick with the 265's after all.

Any interest in saving some money and buying a used set? I’m about to replace mine and go bigger since I’m adding a lift.

I'm running Cooper AT3 275s in "C", and noticed only a slight decrease in power. That being said, it took me about 6 months to get used to the 4500 RPM max power band, and I'm now less annoyed by what you describe as a 'struggle'.

Check out the AT3s, they're lighter, and by all accounts perform just as well as the KO2, but admittedly don't look as burly on the sidewalls. I personally think that look is mostly chest-puffing for non-mud rigs, but to each his own... ;)

Howdy neighbor. You were 2d car behind me at the light the other day. I turned right onto 25. You went straight on through. I have to look carefully and make sure you're not the other guy. I met up with him at Safeway the other day and accosted him. Turns out he's super nice and loves his truck a ton too.

This. I pass everyone going up I-70 ('cause I drive too fast). A 5th gen will easily accelerate from 45 at the bottom of Floyd Hill to over 100 at the top if you tell it to. You just have to press down on the loud pedal. Don't worry about revving it - it'll live all day at 6000 rpm. Remember, this engine is sold in other countries mated to a manual transmission - in this country in the Tacoma come to think of it. People with manual transmissions don't hesitate to put their foot to the floor and let it rev. You shouldn't either - that's how a car is designed to accelerate. (edit: started on a rant, decided to end right here!)

275/70/17 KO2's

No issues.
Entire commute is stop n go traffic in the city so pre- BFG's I was getting 16.8MPG, hasn't slipped much if all, maybe .1-.2 less

I also have full RCI skids + Budbuilt sliders, so the truck is moving a fair amount of weight.

DO IT!
