Full time 4x4 huge difference. Just by weight distribution alone with heavier weight sitting on top of the front tires.

You'll have to excuse my ignorance because I legitimately do not know, are the component locations that much different on full time 4wd?

I think what he means is that since there's more weight up front due to the engine, etc., that's very helpful when the front wheels are given power in 4WD. Versus the very light back end with only the rear wheels given power in all other models.
No, there's no difference with full time 4wd, in fact they use almost entirely the same components. The only difference is the center differential.

I recently replaced my KO2's with Duratracs. The difference is night and day. The KO2's were the scariest tire I have ever owned. They had no lateral traction in wet, compact snow, or icy conditions. My 4runner would easily 'break free' in any of these conditions, especially when cornering. My wife had a close call with the kids in the truck on nothing more than wet roads......last straw. The KO2's were amazing on gravel but that was it! I even ran winter tires for the last 2 seasons because they were so useless.
I owned duratracs on my Tacoma and loved them so I put them on my 4runner. I am super happy again!
I really do think the KO's are unsafe. Yeah, I drive hard, but these tires were crap even at slow speeds. BUY ANYTHING BUT KO2'S!

funny. you either hear this story, that they are scary, and don't have good traction. or you hear that they are great, and have awesome traction.
very rarely is there an in between.
I wonder if it depends on where they are made? I LOVE my KO2's. I wouldn't choose a different tire, and I wouldn't recommend a different one. not based on my personal experience with them.

KO2 - 6 ply C rating
My experience with the C rated 6 ply version of the KO2s have been positive in snow, dirt and rocks. In heavy snow the truck seems like it has snow cat level traction. Replaced shortly after purchasing 2016 Trail, have 40k miles over 2.5 years. I've driven in rain, however, it never seemed like the truck was squirrly in wet. I'm running at 32-35 lbs pressure. They wear well and have taken me through some gnarly NM backcountry. The mpg penalty from stock highway tires was 0.1 mpg.

A good deal of the KO2 pedigree come from desert racing and baja... considering you live in the desert, its a good tire to consider, especially if you off-road where you live.
The real question is how often do you get on the dirt?
C Ply is fine... its the E load range where most people end up having problems in wet/snow.

I live in the valley and I have the stock size c rated ko2. Driven for 25k miles and love them, even in the rain. Great out in the desert too.

I have looked at your pic. The tires look huge at that angle.

Put on C Class 285/70/17 KO2s last week. Taken her out twice now in the rain and have really been rippin' it up. Haven't broken traction once. I live in MN where we get lots of rain and even more snow/ice. Hoping these will be great tires. Very glad I went with C vs. E...Plus, they look BA!!
Every tire I research I find issues or bad reviews so, in the long run, it really doesnt matter. If you are living in deep snow country maybe I can see where you need to be a little more picky, but that's about it.
adding siping can help on snow and ice, but not for wet traction (probably makes it worse). also AT tires usually have some siping, it's usually MT tires that are just blocks.
