I WILL be there. Just got my class schedules and i wont have any midterms/assignments due on that friday so im good to go. Trying to go out either wednesday the 8th late or thursday early morning. Ill probably have a little group coming along. I hope to see some people out there this year. Last year we had a pretty good group of toyotas out there. this will be my 3rd year and hopefully the best. I have to try and avoid the ridiculous hangover so we can go wheeling on Saturday. Last year my friends left there camp and ran mottino wash on saturday, then packed up and moved to cougar buttes for saturday night and then wheeled sunday at CB. I was sick and went home :)

I have heard about some $20 per person fee for going, However im not sure if its totally required. I think you just cant go in to the short course area and the stands that will be set up on the lake bed. Either way i will not be paying. Last year they had the $10 donation to help keep the land open and this year only 10% of the $20 is going to keeping the lands open. The rest is to have increased law enforcement and to help get people into trouble. I would give em $2 for the good cause....Someone is cashing in on this event. 20k people $20 a person = $400K.

Enough of my rant

hope to see you out there.

I will be there again working the remote pit for Car 100, however I also have my Reserve duty starting Saturday so will be leaving Friday night after the race.

Now on the the other part of your rant.... While I don't entiirely agree with the Fee or its purpose I disagree with purposely not paying it and boasting about it. I will not go into my rant on that other than say we are both entitled to our opinions and have stated them.

Are you going to pay? I grew up in this desert I dont need to pay to enjoy it. Maybe you would feel different if it was your backyard, I look out my back door and can see The top of cougar buttes. I just hope some people can think for themselves on the fee. You can disagree all you want.

Like i said $10 bucks for land use. Totally cool with me.... I wanna see how that goes over this year

J, I have enjoyed wheeling with you and think you are a good guy, we just disagree on this. To answer your question I have almost 20 more years wheeling and riding in the desert than you. I grew up riding the desert and love enjoying it and hate seeing our land taken away. However I choose to take a different approach by volunteering my time and donating to groups that fight to keep places open. Like I said in my first post I do not entirely agree with the fee especially since not all of it goes to the FOJV fund, however I will pay it just like I did last year even though as a member of a Team competing I am not required to, the fees for participation also increased significantly and cover all crew members entrance.

I'm going. Not 100% sure on which days yet, but I'm hoping at least wed-sat. I know Tony is going again too so I'll probably camp with him and the "RockSkullz", lol. Jason, you are welcome to camp with us again this year. Pikeman, you are invited to camp with us too (although I'm guessing you'll probably be camping with the pit crew).

I'll probably end up paying the fee if they ask for it at the entrance, but I'll probably also bug them a little and try to find out what the $ is really being used for. There are plenty of events that charge admission which take place in otherwise free areas of land (i.e. concerts, other races, fairs, etc..). I personally don't blame the organizers of KOH if they want to try to make a little $ in their endeavor because it must be a ton of work to get an event going like this. Plus, in my book, they deserve to be rewarded for creating the best off road race the world has ever seen. If it was any other medium of entertainment, they would be making millions.

I know they spend a lot in advertising and whatnot so I would be surprised if they make a profit. I think breaking even is probably the goal. I believe (and I have a little bit of 1st hand knowledge since the originator/founder of KOH lives in the same small town as me) that this race is truly a labor of love for the sport of 4wheeling, not for profit.

If a portion of the admission $ goes to the BLM to keep the land open and some of it goes to LE to make sure 20K people don't get too crazy, I understand. I don't know if it's 100% necessary, but as the event gets bigger every year, it's pretty inevitable I think. But I actually hope some of the money does go to the organizers. Something has to pay for the helicopter to film the thing, the purse for the winners, all the man hours to plan and set up the race, etc.. I doubt all of that comes soley from sponsors. I dunno. But my brother in law owns an event promotion company and it's a tough biz.

I know how you feel though Jason. That's why I don't buy "Adventure Passes" up here. It's my backyard and it sucks to see them spend the money on un-needed crap. Like the 100s of feet of steel stantions (or steel fence or whatever you'd call them) that they just put up right at the beginning of Dishpan. Some are there to specifically block the parking area so now you pretty much have to block the trail if you want to group up at the trailhead. And most of the stantions are there for no reason at all that I can tell, just to look ugly I guess. All I know is, we did just fine without them for the last several decades, I don't see why there are necessary now. I'm guessing that must have cost $6-10,000 in steel and labor to fab and install. And add a little more since it's gub'ment work. But there's a sh!t ton of slash piles and fire debris all over the forest that still hasn't been cleaned up since the "Old Fire" back in '03. I just don't like their priorities.

And an example of the bad enforcement of Adventure Passes by The Forest Service..
For years, the FS wasn't issuing any fines for the thousands upon thousands of sledders that park on the side of the highways (or more accurately IN the highways) for not having Adventure Passes and blocking traffic during the winter as they slowly stroll across the 55 mph highway with their 7 babies to sled in National Forest land. That is until the residents up here complained enough in meetings, in the newspaper, and on local forums that they finally started to issue fines and put up signage last year. Now the enforcement usually lasts a weekend or 2 and then it's back to the same old crap.

These people aren't shopping in our stores, eating in our restaurants, or even buying gas up here to get back home. The come, they sled, they leave their trash, they cause accidents, and then they go home. All for free. But IIIIIIII'm supposed to pay $ to be able to drive out in the NF (which my taxes are already supposed to be paying for) and have a picnic in my backyard. And most of the time while I'm out there, I'm picking up other people's trash when I see it. That's why many locals here have a bad taste in our mouth about the Adventure Pass program. Use the money to clean and maintain the forest! The Adopt-a-Trail program already takes care of the trails. Ok, that's my rant. Sorry, back to the Hammers.

I will be there for sure! I have wen-fri off of work, so I am planning on camping wen-sat! It will be a ton of fun again this year! Thanks Jason and Brian for getting me out there last year.

I'll be there, 4WD Toyota Owner's Magazine wants to do the shoot there.

I wanna go when you guys are there so I'm not alone. Hell, we can all probably be in the shoot together.
