KYB or Monroe Strut Mounts?

I will be putting some new springs/shocks on in the very near future. I do not want to use my OEM mounts because I will leave them set up. If I ever need to I will take off the new stuff I put on and put the worn out junk back on the rig.

Any experience with these two different strut mounts and is one any better than the other? The KYB is $10/30% more than the Monroe. Any input on what one and why is appreciated.

I wouldn't put anything Monroe on a vehicle I intended to keep for more than a year. Go with KYB or OEM.

You're not putting Monroe shocks on are you? (Don't!)

Bilstein 4600's

I've used KYB to replace the oem on my 4th gen, was very happy. I wanted a better performance and went with bilstein 5100. I installed bilstein 5100 on my 3rd gen and been very happy. Performs well off and on road. If you're not going to go offroad and it's your DD, kyb is fine, bilstein 4600 better ride and 5100 for lifts. Not fan of monroe's

I want the best, nicest ride, bumps, and no lift is my requirement.

- What springs (front and rear)? OEM or upgrade? I plan to buy new F/R springs.

- Bilstein 5100 all around budget wise.

Heck yes....lots of advice...I had intended to go with the Bilstein 4600 after all my research. I literally have spent easy 100 hours here and all over the internet researching the same. Not to sell you anything but those are the shocks to use based on my research for your needs. I have a set of 4 right in front of me ready to ship back to get the 5100's. Interested? Depends on your purpose. And the 4th gen guys are probably better at answering that question.

I have on a different car replaced the OEM mounts with Monroe. I will say that the Monroe mounts are cheap and plastic compared to the solid metal OEMs. My opinion is that Monroe stuff is cheaply made and I always feel ripped off for the money they charge.

Sadly, in Canada we often don't have much other option, and I have used Monroe on our cars, but NOT the 4runner. I would stay away from Monroe if you have another option. If you like the 4runner I would order an OEM set and never have to think about it again.

I recommend 4x4 FJ cruiser coil springs and pairs real well with the 5100's, budget friendly. I still have the 5100 and fj coil spring on the front but changed the rear due to needing more lift to compensate for camping gear.

Any 4x4 FJ springs will work from production year 07- 14. You can check craigslist, this site or fj cruiser forum for members selling them. Cheaper than dealers but you can check camelback Toyota parts. Mine is the 2014 FJ springs. It's an upgrade, slight height difference and spring rate. You can look at my signature. I upgraded mine to what I needed.

Yes it will. I believe, been awhile, it's side specific to address driver side lean.

I would not use the 5100's for your wants......go with the 4600's. I am lifting mine 2" so that is only reason I went with 5100's. I messed up on what to order....dont do the same.

Have you checked prices online for OEM mounts? You're talking about the top hats with 3 splined studs pressed into them, right?

No I have not...checked spring prices (99 Highlander) and I can get EMU for a lot less. Any suggestions as to where?

Edit: Just found some for + $60!!!!
