Welcome to the build thread for kyle_uran 2003 4Runner SR5 4WD. I plan to document meets and gatherings, off-road trips, daily use of the 4Runner and any modifications. Pleas enjoy and give feed back, if you wish.

Eventually, i'd like to head back to other off road parks or road trips out West and do trail runs. Living in Texas, we don't have much public land to wheel on.

Thanks for checking this out. I called a few companies re. sliders and have decided on Bay Area Metal Fab for weld-on sliders. Ordering those within two weeks and hopefully will have installed by end of September.

Waiting to get some type of off-road or more aggressive tires. Also going to source FJ rear springs and Tacoma Bilsteins.

Beyond that, not sure what else i'll do in the time being. What direction would you go on a build with this platform?

Update: 8/27/14

Driving around Houston on 1960/Kyurkendah, i heard a "pop" and thought i hit a soda bottle or a pot hole. Sure enough, when i got to work, the rear passenger tire had popped and deflated. I took the spare out, which was original and thankfully air up, and quickly switched wheels and tires.

After calling a few tires shops, Discount Tire had 265/70/17 Cooper Discover ATP for $145. I ended up replacing all four (4) tires and transferred the best old-tire i had onto the spare, since it was a 2003, and not newer like the Bridgestone Duelers.

Update: 9/18/14

On September 4, 2014, i was involved in an accident with the 4Runner. I was not at fault and only side swiped up along the driver side front quarter panel. Their insurance has been alright to deal with so far and the Runner is in the shop as i type. The door is needing some body work, getting a new quarter panel and maybe front bumper.

Edit: I got a set of bolt-on Shrockworks sliders powder coated gray to match the trip. Looking at six weeks return time.

Update: 9/18/14

On September 4, 2014, i was involved in an accident with the 4Runner. I was not at fault and only side swiped up along the driver side front quarter panel. Their insurance has been alright to deal with so far and the Runner is in the shop as i type. The door is needing some body work, getting a new quarter panel and maybe front bumper.

I also ordered a set of bare metal Bay Area Metal Fab rock sliders with optional kick out. Last time i spoke with them, they had some in inventory, so maybe looking to get them installed late next week or the following week.

Man, that sucks. I'm sorry to hear that. Is it possible that their insurance will let you divert some of those "front bumper" funds to an armored bumper (say CBI or Addicted Off Road)? I mean the OEM bumper installed with paint is probably going to cost the same OR MORE anyway. Just something to consider. Actually, thinking about this, you probably would not even have to ask their insurance. Just tell your body shop guy. That is, unless you used the one that their insurance recommended, 'cause then your screwed. Sorry, don't mean to meddle, but you need to turn this loss into A WIN!!!!

Update: 10/8/14
I picked up the car from two and a half weeks of being in the body shop and driving a Fiat 500 rental car. It was well put back together and paint matches good. I received a $200 check from the auto body shop since a molding wasn't replaced, which is going straight to my sliders fund.

Sliders being installed on Monday and will update with pictures.

Snagged a lightly used set of Toytec BOSS coilovers and extended rear 5100 from a Tacoma (hope the rear shocks fit) today. Waiting until holiday sales to pick up Superflex coils and LR UCAs.

Edit 12/7/14: SOLD the Toytec adjustable coilovers and 5100s.
