LA Trail Guys and Shooters

Hi,
I posted in the wrong section....Ive been slammed with grad school the past two years but its over soon. Then I want to hit the trails and finally use my 4runner for something other than long commutes in Cali highways.

I live in Manhattan Beach, and would love to connect with some off road guys in the area who might go on trail rides from time to time. I also would love to connect with any shooters or hunters in the area. I guess this extends to OC and SD too, as when I have more time to go trail riding or shooting I will drive a few hours I dont mind.

I have a 98 4runner with 5 speed, e locker, racerunner coils up front, OME/Bilstein in the rear and BFG ATs. Im not looking to smash it up but I would love to go hit some trails, do some camping, hunting, and shooting in the next few years in Cali and even surrounding states if guys do long trips. I also have a Jeep with lockers and skids etc that is great in the woods the few times Ive had it out, but I kinda think the 4runner will be just as nimble but allow me to get to the trails in more comfort and haul more gear if its a weekend wheeling or camping trip.

If anyone is in my area and wants to meet up for coffee sometime let me know. My 4runner is forest green and you cant miss the NRA, Dont Tread on Me, and POW-MIA stickers as there are not too many of those in Manhattan Beach

I saw that and it looks perfect..however following week I have grad school midterms and will be burning the midnight oil in the books next weekend. Looks just like what Id enjoy, I want to get out see some green, see some trees, nature, just get a break from the city and crowded highways!

Now I know where to check for trail rides in my area!! Thanks!

Sweet, give me a little bit to get through some work projects and grad school tests, and Id love to get out on the trails with some locals.

I was half tempted to sell my 4runner just because I never use it off road, and I do have Jeep...so felt nearly like selling the 4runner and getting a new TRD Off Road pickup just to be more cozy in 405 traffic jams yet still have a nice Yota 4x4....but Im guessing if I got a new truck I would not take it on the trails as much. So I really want to start using the 4runner and will help keep me happy its getting used for what I bought it for, not just the highway. Then maybe I will get the bug to put in a CB and a rear bumper and skids if I start wheeling it enough with guys on here.

I love to 'wheel and shoot, happy to join in on trail rides and shooting when I can fit them in around family obligations.

I'm in Northern San Diego so cup of coffee will have to wait until a trail ride (substitute for a beer!?!?) but I was cracking up at your description of stickers in Manhattan Beach. Nice.

Every summer I run a bunch of trails in the Big Bear/Green Valley Lake area. You are more than welcome to come with as are all my T4R brethren. Ive been running these trails for the past 30+ years! We usually camp out for a week or so. If anyone is interested, its never too early to start planning, that way everyone can make time on their calendar. Let me know so we can set a date and reserve campsites. They book up quickly as summer nears. I also do day runs and overnighters too. Lets Lock Those HUBS!

Yea, my stickers are not so common....I do chuckle there is some ex marine in town with a brand new loaded Chevy and he has a huge sticker "Fly this one or Fly home" American flag....Id be scared to get my tires slashed or something haha

If I put a camo paint job or some camo wrap, I might get petitioned to be banned from town

I know the feeling... I have a flag hanging in front of my house since 9/11. And it isn't coming down till ALL our boys come home! Enough with the "nation-building" BS. Just kill the bastards n come home. Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now...

Sadly during this admin SF friends of mine have said the ROE are so ridiculous that we are not even aggressive in the fight always and put our guys at risk on a regular basis unless we are like someone going to prove no women or children are in any home or neighborhood our boys are getting shot at from before returning fire or leveling them to the ground....not a way you can win a war. Not that I want to see innocent women and children die, but I do not want Americans dying while taking fire because they cannot prove whom is where...

Yea, fight to win or bring them home. And lets pray somehow we start taking better care of our troops when they come home. We give handouts and support freeloaders in this country but guys and gals who serve our country living in harms way can come home with crappy medical and mental health care, not much cash, and not transitioned properly....but we have plenty of welfare, food stamps, and section 8 money for those who never served....ugh....get my blood boiling in the morning.

I am not good with this west coast wheeling, I grew up hammering the mud in the woods in OH and PA....and I do not know the area as far as how to navigate trails in SoCa. BUT I am more than willing anytime someone goes out, if we found a wounded vet organization or something, I am more than willing to throw guys in my Jeep or 4runner and cover their grub for the day.

I dont know if any of you SoCa guys are in the military, especially down in San Diego, but if so and folks go on trail rides I will gladly take guys with me.

I am heading to Storm Mountain Training Center next month (Welcome) to train under my mentor who is former SF/DC SWAT. Those trips are the best "retreats" for me, being with other current/former LE/MIL out in the mountains doing tactical training, bon fires and BBQs at night staying in a bunk house together, and there are trails everywhere. Its in WV so I fly into Pitt to see my parents and drive down. I bought my parents a Jeep XJ and could wheel it, but will not, its bone stock, and their grandpap mobile....part of me would love to lift it mildly and have something to off road with when in PA or WV, but will have to wait until they get another car and maybe I can tinker with the XJ. I was tempted to bring the 4runner to PA, so I can wheel it everytime I come home as there are trails and such all over. But then if I did buy a new Tacoma TRD or Jeep Grand Cherokee out here, there is no way in hell I would wheel it most likely because Id be thinking about all the money I owe on it haha...I would still have the Jeep to wheel....but I am so curious about how a 4runner does on the trail, because driving 2-3 hours to a trail in a 4runner would be nicer than a Jeep and I could throw in way more gear, and have the ability to lock it when stopping at restaurants or if I ended up in a hotel. Anyhow, that a different topic, the temptation to get a new 4x4 versus keeping the 98 4runner...and scared the bug will bite if I meet some of you guys, and I will want to throw sliders, skids, and rear bumper on it, new tires, lights, CB, and turn into a real trail riding weekend warrior...which IF that is the case it would be worth it, but I threw all kinds of money into my Jeep for skids, 4.88s, winch, bumpers, upgraded driveshafts, lift, etc and only been to Big Bear 4 times in 3 years!!! So yea, I need to find some guys to get my ass out in the woods more especially when grad school is over and weekends will be free!!

I love the idea of taking some of our Wounded Warriors out on some trail rides. Its the least we can do... I donate whenever I can. On another note, my son had a class project to write a letter to one of our senatorsuke: The teacher 'suggested' writing about 'social justice', gay "rights", or immigration. My son chose instead to write about PTSD and what is being done to help our returning vets. He is not expecting to receive an A since she seemed a bit upset at his choice of subject matter. But I couldn't be prouder.

Freaking California...wow Id be HOT if my son came home with teacher saying that....and crazy but writing about caring for those who serve will get him a potentially worse grade or jaded response...good for him for taking the high rode and writing about something he cares about, and good for you being a parent teaching values and not just sucking up.
