Labor cost on lift?

Hey all,

I have a 2008 Sport V6. I'm going to drop the XREAS and put in Bilstein 6112s up front, Bilstein 5100s w/ SAW 1.5" springs in the back, and a diff drop.

How much should I expect in labor costs? I got an estimate for $800 just for the labor, and I feel that is a bit high. Total install cost w/ parts is $2100. I checked the parts costs on the estimate, and they are in line with what I've found online.

Ehhh ... $700 to $900 is going to be average, especially if your going to have to rip out xreas system (even though there is nothing really to do for that). I think $800 is decent ... This is why most everyone on here tries to tackle on their own :) (this is based on the labor rates in my area that I have acquired).

Wow...I need to raise my rates. I've been charging the same thing for 7 years. Glad I read this post.
 
Mine was $420 for labor - springs and shocks replacement but not XREAS. Basically this was 6 hours at $70/hour. This was SF Bay Area but a backstreet shop with decent mechanics and no BS. It took longer than they expected because of a rusted/seized bolt at the bottom of one front shock. They had no idea what to do with a diff drop, so didn't install it. Looking at the angles (for a ~2.25" lift) it doesn't look required to me either. This didn't include an alignment either.
 
The Truck Shop (Toyota ONLY folks) in San Diego (Near Miramar MCAS) charged roughly $600 to remove XREAS and install the Icon Stage II life I provided.

They know their stuff. He also declined to sell me the diff drop kit for the 4th Gen saying it isn't needed and causes other issues (which I've forgotten exactly what those issues were).

Dude, if you have a weekend, buy a couple tools and save cash. I've never done anything close like this before, and with the help of this site and few cool cats who took time, you can do it. Check out the help they gave me on the thread. It was a pain but let me tell you, I felt awesome once I figured it out and now I can fix something when it goes wrong.

+Alignment, right? (~$70-$120)
 
Basically the same lift..

Here in the bay area i had estimates between 500 and $650 to remove the XREAS and replace it with already assembled coil overs and rear springs and 5100s. I ended having an independent do it for $400 cash and an alignment was $100.

id suggest calling shops inland OC/Riv or even LA county.

Do it yourself and invest that $800 into some tools. Also more mods! $800 can go a long way!

As much as I'd love to get some help and knock this thing out on my own with some help, I have to be sure it's knocked out in one day and done right. It's the only vehicle in the house that can accommodate all three kids. With all the sports, bday parties, and all the other stuff that comes with kids, I can't have the runner out of commission on the weekend. I'm already planning on taking a day off of work to squeeze the job in. Luckily I have have a butt load of leave hours built up.

I had 1 friend, who was knowledgable in Jeeps, help me do a similar lift and removal of XREAS. It was done in about 10+ hours and was finished in 1 day. I was quoted 500-600 so I bought a few missing tools, a couple growlers and some Pizza for under $100 and learned a lot along the way.

If you find some of the friendly folks here that are willing and more knowledgable than myself I could see this being done much faster than we did it.
 
I got a guy in north San Diego county that can bang it out for probably around $400. I found him off the Tacoma world forum. He does amazing work. He just installed my icons, camburg, metaltech lift. He got everything done in a few hours too. His name is Jason (760) 560-7779 tell him Grant sent you..

+1 tI had mine done in DFW area, I think i got a hell of a deal... toytec 3 inch lift, diff drop, sway bar relo, half shalfs, and lower ball joints replaced WITH alignment (including adjusting caster) for $475.
 
Got a Toytec 3/2 with 5100s all around and diff drop installed for $200. Alignment not included.
