All, i rec'd an email last night from bajarack. They are still working on their version of the 3rd gen ladder, but sent me a pic of the prototype. I cannot tell if it is photoshopped or not. It is a very different shape from the Gobi and I'm not sure what I think yet...opinions?

pretty cool....obviously it'll be powder coated black when it's done

i just don't see the need for a ladder to justify the price...i just hop up on the rear tire...just my .02

its not photoshopped, i do a lot of work on CS3 and CS4 and its still really hard to make shadows like that. It also looks thrown together, i could make that if i really wanted too.

yeah, it isnt the final version, its just in prototype stage. what i was really looking for feedback on was the general shape versus the GOBI

2000runr, to answer your question - no, I don't care for the shape. Why the sharp bend?? It's not like that bend is going to increase rear visability any more than if it had no bend...I mean, it's just a ladder.

Granted I'm not looking to purchase one, but as it stands now, I prefer the look of the gobi ladder.

It follows the shape of the rear liftgate...I kinda like the bend in it

Ok the rack they make is 100% Top Notch but I am not as impressed with this initial attempt. It looks like they are having it mount to the Rack and the bottom of the hatch. This will greatly hinder the operation of the hatch and would require great engineering of a hinge at the top bend which if not on the same planes as the Hatch hinges will cause binding.

Just looked again and maybe they are having it mount top and bottom of the hatch like the GOBI. Even then I personally would have waited to send out a mid Prototype pic until it was a little further along to keep it closer to a finished product. Can still be raw and tacked but would have been better for public opinion if it was at least mounted properly. Oh well now I am just rambling. Like I said earlier the rack is extreme high quality I love mine and would not buy any other and i am sure the final version of the ladder will be just as high quality.

Its an interesting direction, I think the angle is a little too extreme, its almost like a Jaos+. I should have Gobi's passenger side ladder either today or tomorrow, I'm sitting here waiting for UPS to come right now with it. The driver side one will be here next week along with their rack so I'll put all the speculation to rest pretty soon

I just hung up the phone with GOBI. Their ladder is $199 which includes freight. I think Im gonna get one, I just cant get over that crazy bajarack shape. The reason GOBI says their rack is so much more expensive is that it is made in the USA (hence higher labor rate), over 250 welds per rack, and its built for life. Pikeman you'll agree the $400-$500 rack from Bajarack is just as sweet.

May I ask why you're buying both a driver and passenger side ladder? Comparison testing are we?

Seems good news comes in pairs, the same day I heard the Bushwacker sponsorship was confirmed I got endorsed by Gobi, they're giving me the second one.

note also when you buy a GOBI rack right now they are giving the ladder away free. If you're looking for a home for that extra ladder at a discounted rate, please let me know.
