Larger tires from Costco

So I've been on the fence about getting new tires since I don't have many miles on my Dunlops. I was really just waiting for a great deal on some Revos or BFGs. So with this current promotion of $75 MIR for Revos and the announcement that prices are going up May 1st on all Bridgestone tires, I decided now would be a good time to get tires. So last night and this morning I go to 2 Costcos and try to order 265/70-17 and both places won't install them on my truck b/c they're larger than stock. I know some of you guys here said you bought from Costco and they installed them for you. How the *bleep* did you get them to install them?

I'm working on a Bridgestone/Firestone dealer to install the Revos and price match Costco. This is a lot of trouble to just get some new tires.

Ask to see Costco's policy in writing. In the written policy it says that you/they can deviate from the OEM size by 5 or 10 %. This will allow you/them to sell and install the 265/70-17.

I already have the Firestone dealer getting the tires from their warehouse to the shop on Monday. If they can match the price (which the mgr already said), I'll have new tires Monday night :D.

I think I feel safer with the Firestone dealer than I do with Costco after meeting the mechanics from all 3 locations (2 Costcos).
 
which firestone is this? I'm in Essex county. Maybe your firestone dealer can get some more business. Also did you get the stock tire size 265/65 or you went with the 70. What's the final price installed?

I went to the one in Hackensack, near Riverside Square Mall off Route 4. I had them order the 265/70-17 tires. I need to call the manager today about the tires. I'm hoping it will be under $600 installed and $75 MIR :D. I should have them installed tonight.
 
I went to Firestone this afternoon during lunch and there they were, waiting for me. 4 new 265/70-17 Revos. I talk to the manager and he says he can't install them b/c they're not a size offered by Toyota according to his book but he'll honor the Tirerack price (137.99 each). So I got a set of tires sitting in my 4runner now for $591.08. I'll have to go to my bro-in-law's shop to mount them myself :bash: . I hate mounting tires. I can do it, it's just a pain in the ass.

I'll probably go tonight after work.
 
That is disappointing, to hear that Firestone is as fearfull as Costco about mounting anything but OEM specified tires.
 
Disappointing but understandable. In a society where no one is willing to take responsibility and litigation is rampant, what do you expect? All businesses need to cover their asses or get sued and go out of business.
 
I am wanting Revos on my new rig and I called costco about getting LT265/75/16. The guy said that Costco implemented a new policy this week that they will not install tires that is more than 3% ratio bigger. The size I wanted is 3.4% than stock so he said he would not budge. He did say that I could get 275/70/16. I have a SR5 with stock 265/70/16 Dueler H/T.
I might be selling those soon with the wheels.
 
Just buy the tires you want and have a local shop install them for you. It might cost a bit more (~$40 more) but in the end, you'll get what you really want and you won't have any regrets.

I just installed the tires tonight and they ride almost the same as the stock Dunlops. There's no more road noise and handle bumps well. I'll try to post some pics soon.
 
Discount tire got my business 'cause everyone else told me how long it would take including Costco which said 3 to 5 business days. The Discount Tire down the street said, "How soon can you get here?". It took 'em less than 1/2 an hour once I got there...and they weren't slow that day. No broken pressure sensors and balanced perfectly.

Hey Drew, haven't seen you around in a while. I was starting to worry about you.

Things are good. I got my CB installed and it works very well. I get about 4-5 miles out. I installed my tires last night and got a car wash today during lunch. My 4runner is looking good now :D. The tires definitely make a difference. They fill out the wheel wells MUCH better than the stock sizes. Ride is basically the same.

I think I'm done modding my truck.

Need help installing anything? :D
 
I say screw costco, I plan on buying my tires online, cheap and installing them myself at the auto hobby shop on my base. Wont cost me a dime to mount them and It will be done right. Most military bases have auto hobby shops. If you have a buddy in the military you might be able to get them to install your tires for free. I dunno if this helps you guys out much, but I am excited about getting new tires soon! I just asked the hobby shop today if they would give me any crap about putting on larger tires. they didnt seem to mind... Now I just have to chew up these damn dunlops. I got almost 24K on em now.... and still chewing.
 
I had 7100 miles on my Dunlops. My reasoning was that the $75 rebate for a set is the most I've seen so far and Bridgestone is raising their prices on May 1st. Plus, these tires should be good for 40-50k miles which is about 3 yrs for me. My M3 usually goes thru a set a year. Total cost for the Revos was $515 after rebates. I installed them myself at my bro-in-law's shop so installation was free.
