Larger tires = smoother ride?

A buddy of mine works at a tire shop and he said that going from 32's to 33's would provide a better ride quality because of the extra sidewall equalling more tire flex. Is this a big enough variable to improve the ride quality by much?

Anyone with experience upgrading to 33's notice anything?

I just put on 285/70/17's and i must say that its a pretty smooth ride. no noise on the freeway and very smooth in town.....of course they are brand new though

Not entirely true. First thing to consider is the added un-sprung weight from larger tires. Second is sidewall strength. LT (D or E rated) tires will not smooth out the ride because they are run at higher psi. When I got my pro comps, they would barely flex or deform when i tried to compress them. I sat square on the tire and it did not budge.

There are a few p-rated truck with 33" diameters: Revo's and BFG Rugged Trail to start. The p-rated revo weighs 43lbs, only 2lbs more than a 265/65. One other, the Nitto Dura Grappler may offer a better ride, due to its tread and construction, but is not an off road tire.

Thanks. I figured it wasn't as big of a change as he said, but he is the type you can't argue with, so I avoided it and got a 2nd opinion. I don't think I will be going to 33's for now. Can't justify the cons of having them.
