Last of the online extended warranties appears to be gone?

I've never heard of a factory warranty running from the date of policy purchase. It seems like all Toyota offers is contingent on total vehicle miles.

This is how the extended warranty I purchased on my 2008 with 46k miles on it works. The coverage only lasts until 100k or 8 years since the vehicle was originally purchased by the first owner. So, I have the coverage until this particular vehicle reaches 100k miles (original miles-not added on), or 8 years which is this coming September 8, 2016, which is exactly 8 years from the date it was purchased brand new.

That's what happened when I purchased my 4th Gen.

And it was a Toyota warranty? Or a third party company warranty?

My claims for my 4th gen on my 3yr/36k Zero Deductible plan cost Toyota over 7 grand in parts, labor, and rentals for the legitimate issues my 4th gen experienced; I didn't even pay 1/4 of that for the plan itself.

Geez, I bought my 2002 with 33K on the clock, had 114K when I sold it and it still had the original exhaust, factory battery gave up the ghost at 11 years old (yes, 11 years) and I replaced the front rotors at 108K because I got tired of the warpage vibration. Did the timing belt and such at 90K but other than that - maintenance nothing but oil changes and coolant flush.

Sounds to me like you got a lemon to have spent that amount. Mine didn't leak a drop of oil or anything when I traded it in.

To be fair, that's dealer pricing to what we charged extended warranty; I didn't pay a single dime towards that (in fact extended warranty paid me since the service writer just dispatched the work to me anyways, so I got paid to fix my 4Runner on extended warranty's dime.) Though I have to admit I'd probably consider it a lemon had it not been for the extended warranty, some of those failures are common (CV boots, Driveshaft "clunk"), others are more rare such as the brake booster and the pinion (seriously, I think I'm one of maybe 2~3 people on the forum I've seen that had this issue?), so it was just bad luck I guess? But then again I got the vehicle with 86k on the clock, it was originally owned in LA and sold to me in the Bay Area.

Yeah, I think sometimes with vehicles its just luck of the draw. Granted, with Toyota your luck is going to be much better than with say a Chrysler product but still things can happen.

Many years ago I bought my oldest kid a 1989 (I think) 4Runner (cheap new driver/high mileage vehicle) and that thing was a complete POS.

That 3.0L V6 was junk and sucked gas like water. My 2002 however was a completely different story. The 3.4L is (IMO) a jewel and that truck never gave me a lick of trouble.
