The front one was held on by 3 screws, but the rear one is the same as the rest of the emblems, 3M adhesive. I just pried it off with a screwdriver.
It was near 90 degrees here today, and 97 when I went 15 miles inland, so I guess I chose a good day to pull them off. The adhesive was so soft that most of them came off by just pulling on them. I only used dental floss on the rear ones.

Well let's see the finished product! You always seem to be a step ahead of what I want to do to my runner. By the way, what kinda of paint did you use?

I will post some pictures after I get some clear coat over the remaining emblems, and get them on my truck. I painted the iForce V8 emblem, but not the V8 on the grille yet. I think it would look weird since it has a black plastic background to it.

Alright here are some pictures of them. Sorry the truck is so dirty, it was windy and hot on Saturday, so with it came massive amounts of dust.
And yes, I realize that the "Sport Edition 4WD" isn't perfectly straight. I hadn't straightened them out and put them on all the way when I took the picture.

Good Lookin' Truck
Josh,
Truck looks great. I debadged mine Sunday night and painted the emblems yesterday. My 4R had a "GOLD"
package that had to go.....
So my Dad told me that if I soaked the emblems in Bleche White tire cleaner (20-30 min) it should take the gold plating off.....Didn't work, I think most of the emblems are Gold through and through......
Anyway, bought some Bullfrog Plastic Paint 'Primer' for grip and then painted them BLACK with Krylon Plastic Paint......
As I was attaching the tape to the Rear Bullhorn Emblem and then STRUGGLING with cutting it out using an exacto knife I knicked the emblem in a few places. So I went and bought a can of Clear GLOSS ENAMEL Spray last night and gave them two coats to dry over night.......
Now I am going for the KITT 2000 (as a friend said to me yesterday) so I am just putting the Bullhorns on front and rear and thats all.....
I am a little concerned if the paint will hold up, but I guess if not I can always take them off and try again.....
BTW, there has to be an easier way to adhere the Emblem/Trim Tape instead of how I did it....cutting around the emblem was a B*OTCH.....

She's gotten over the steps being gone, but will probably hang me by my balls if I go through with purchasing rims tomorrow. I have a deposit on a set of black rims that I am going to check out in person before I make the plunge. I figured that a $20 non refundable deposit is better than $780 upfront, and not liking them. All I had to go by was pictures, but I think I may like them. Here's a picture of them. And god help me cure my obsessive modding disorder, it'll be the death of me.
I figure if the paint stops holding, and becomes a pain, I can always debadge it all together for a nice clean look. But I washed the truck yesterday, and they held up fine with a little scrubbing. I figure that if they hold fine the day after I painted them, they will be perfectly fine after their "7 day setting time" as specified on the can.
I just bought a 1" wide roll of 3M tape, specifically for emblems, and other similar objects. They had it at autozone. I too cut out the back, precisely the same shape as the emblem. They also have a 3M tube, that is more of a clear gel that I supposed to work in the same way, but I was content with how the double sided tape held up. I didn't mind a little extra work.
If I decide to paint it, it just pops right off. Takes literally 5 seconds. I had to transfer it from the chrome grille to the black grille, and I was very surprised at how easy it was.Ginuwite said:

As a follow-up to my last post, here is what they looked like on. However, the salesman was an idiot and they caused my tires to rub too much, so i returned them. They looked okay, but not worth $800. Totally blacked out sounds good until you look at it in person, then it's not as impressive as you would think.
Having the stock rims really brings out how black and shiny the truck itself is, so when I put the black rims on, it defeated that. I also just changed my tint to limo all around, so it definitely looks better with stock rims to help bring out the black in the truck and the windows. (this picture still has 20% on the front windows, but are now 5%)

I was also wanting to go for the blacked out look with black wheels minus the tint. I am not sure anymore based on your comments and pics. I have to agree with you on how the stock wheels bring out the black. Other color 4runners look sweet with the black wheels, but I am not so sure with a black 4runner. I don't know what I want to do.

I liked the look of the wheel itself, but with it on...I wasn't a big fan. I'm glad you're keeping the the stock rims. And when I change my oil next week, I'll take off the boards and see how mine looks. Why doesn't your girl like the steps off?
