I saw this Singtoe a couple of days ago and thought of you; the only caveat I thought you would have would be the hood clearance since I think that the SC adds height, but can't say 100% for sure.

That is a steal if it goes for less than 1500. I think the v8 supercharger is worth more than the v6 supercharger.
 
I was going to bid, but ebay says that the V8 isn't compatible with my 1996 4Runner.
I'm out, bid away.

Ya, to make this happen this happen you're going to need to do some serious work all the way around. Singtoe's thread on his V8 swap was a great highlight in that.

On that note though, I don't suppose you have an image of all the custom wiring mods you had to do in order to make that 4.7 of yours purr do you Singtoe? I've been eyeballing the auctions to the point that I'll probably have to sleep a night in the 4r under the wife's orders if I keep it up!
 
Sweet motor, looks like it needs a little care.... I'd love to see it in a 1st gen, just sayin.

It won't add anymore height but that is what the sport hood might be good for.

I would love to do another swap but buying just a motor is only one little part of many. This particular swap would need an ECU, wire harness, tranny, Torque convertor, ac compressor, fuel pump, cats and front drive shaft.

To do a swap , one would need a donor truck to get all the parts off of.

I still have all my notes for the wiring but Toyota will change wiring anytime they feel that there is an improvement. This is why ECU's are always year specific. To do it right, would need to do them individually based on what year 4runner and which donor model one got.

The are companies out there that will sell a complete wire harness turn key wire harness but they want a grand to make one.



The bad thing this about this auction is that we do not know the history. How many miles are on the charger, how it ran, but It does come with a 90 day warranty, so if it is a total ****, should be able to get money back. Not your labor though. I also does not come with the TRD ECU. That would be the missing link to get this charger to run right.

Installation Check List:

(Failure to complete the following will void Warranty)

Determine why the original engine failure occurred and make appropriate repairs.
Insure this engine is the same application as the one being replaced.
Clear all computer diagnostic codes from the vehicle prior to installing.
Exchange the oil pan and pick up tube.
Inspect and replace gaskets & seals (front seal, rear main seal, valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets).
On crankshaft bolts that are drilled through sealant must be applied to avoid leaks.
Install new thermostat & gasket.
Replace the timing belt.
Remove all "cap-plugs" orifice covers.
Replace water pump.
Install replacement sparkplugs & wires.
Exchange the flywheel and bolts.
Exchange attached accessory items to insure proper fit (mounts, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, distributor, sensors).
Disable fuel/ignition before attempting to start engine. This will allow the oil to prime as indicated by the manufacturer.
Replace engine oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filters, coolant-antifreeze.
Drain excess oil and coolant from exhaust system.
If equipped with an engine oil cooler the radiator or external cooler must be replaced.
Insure the cooling system is flushed and functioning properly.

Not to mention it looks like you have to all of the above to be considered still qualified for the warranty.

you gotta do this though so we can have a write up and give me something to do when my engine finally goes! barring a diesel, i think this is the way i'd personally like to go, but have never done any sort of major conversion like this before. i say go for it if nothing to just give us another option for our trucks.
 
For me, the seller (LKQ) has it labeled "Economy Shipping". Yea, right.

I did not know if there was a height issue but thanks for the clarity insight Singtoe. I am curious what you would do with that extra engine.

I don't think there is an issue with height. I believe it is the same as stock. If I win it, i would bo another 1" body lift to get clearance if needed.


I would try to sell the extra motor if I won it.
