79 4x4 Pick up w 99 4runner chasis

Hey all!

Just wanted to share my current project. I few years back I got a 99 4runner 4x4 off Facebook marketplace for about $1200.
I was able to find a 79 Toyota cab and bed that wasn’t too rusted for a couple hundred bucks. Just sanded it all down and coated it for now.

Will be using the 99 4runner chassis and sitting the 79 pickup body over it.

Found a bench seat at the junk yard and door panels that need to be redone.

Lights and grille were purchased from eBay. Super cheap.

Most recently I found some old ultra type 62 wheels 15x8 on marketplace for $300. Pretty good shape just needed to be water sanded and polished.

This is a budget build! Nothing fancy.

I’m looking for recommendations for tires and suspension.

For tires I want to go 33x12x15 what all terrains do yall recommend
For suspension 5100? Or what’s your recommendation?

How close are the wheelbases between the two?

Since you are dropping some weight with the older/lighter truck body, most suggestions for suspension are going to be off from those of us that have added weight to their 4Runners.

Wheel base was off by about 3 1/2 inches. Body lift , shifted the cab a few inches back, and maybe a 2 inch lift will help it not make it less noticeable.

Thanks for bringing up the weight consideration. Totally forgot to take that into account. I’ll have to do a little more research. But will most likely let end up with 5100s just have to figure out springs

I'd get the rest of the truck up and working/built, then go back for the suspension. It'll give you a reference point - cab and bed mounting height will have a big effect on how it looks. 5100's are good - and you can run them at stock height or 'lifted' (which might be what happens with stock springs).
