LC vs 4Runner

Since I made the mistake of sitting in an 09 LC I keep thinking this may be my next vehicle (not right away.) I was wondering since some of you on here basicly know a crap load of info, hows the comparison between these 2 trucks? Off road (beach and snow, no rock crawling for me on LI) and on road manners. Besides the price how does the 4runner stack up against the Big Brother LC? Is the LC a special vehicle to drive (didnt test drive it)? Cant get this damn truck out of my head. Thanks.

The land cruiser is the most overbuilt car on the planet and is better in virtually every way to the 4runner. As you can see by simply sitting in one its an entirely different class.

Im obsessed with them - my mom has had two and my next car will be one.

They drive better, are far tougher, and you feel special driving a legend.

I could chew your ear out about them all day.

I have to say that as much as I love them, the price of a new one just doesn't equal the truck you are getting anymore. A Limited 4Runner with some lockers added will be 10s of thousands less and as or nearly as capable and almost as nice. I had an 1976 FJ40 after college and will always love them. I just have trouble on the value side of a new one - whether you can afford it or not. I have thought about getting one, but I just don't think it is a good value.

I mean I guess I can kind of see that although the 80s were 55k back when they were new so 75k today isnt terrible although the price has increased substantially.

Now a 200 series aussie spec with 2 rear mounted spares, factory bullbar and winch with cloth seats is a whole different ball game. With locker too

go for a 2002 LC then you have both. it has all the tricks and upgrades without being so impossibly rich blooded. let the cat eat spam for a while. :driving:

I was initially going to purchase a used LC, something in the '94-'97 year range. Researching the LC is actually how I found out about the 4Runner. The LC is more capable off road and plusher on road. I test drove a few, also some LX 450's. If it weren't for the gas mileage, I might have purchased a LC.

The LC is the bombdiggety..........worked with a doc in Gallup NM who had his 2000 tricked out big tires big brush grill and big loader up top. Dang I liked that vehicle.........the price is why I was shy of it.........now I'm in trouble will be thinking about this. :hungry::hungry:

The best way I can think to describe the difference between a 4R and a LC is in the experience you have when you go over a speed bump. In the 4R you know exactly when you went over the speed bump because you felt it. In the LC, its more like floating over the speed bump...like you've heard of speed bumps but they are of no consequence to you. You ignore them, they are nothing.

At least thats what it feels like in my LC(ok, my wife's LC, but sometimes she lets me take the kids to school in it!)

Beautiful. 100% Correct.

LC's are amazing. My dad has been driving an LX470 for years. It has more than 150k miles and the engine and ride are still just smooooth. Not to mention it goes through anything and the hydrolic suspension is pretty cool. I've towed with it a few times and there is nothing cooler than watching it adjust to the added weight of the trailer

No its not, how isnt the Range now overbuilt? A very luxorious vehicle, A supercharged Jaguar V8, One of the best offroad vehicles ever produced, the new dual view GPS/DVD player...

The RR has a very strong unibody, probably the strongest on the planet. But, the downfall is that it is still a unibody that will age quicker OFF-ROAD than a well-designed body-on-frame. Actually, i prefer the BOF design of the LR3/RRS because i hear that LR3 BOF is superb!

RR for the longest time had major issue with grenading its front differential...i think from 2003 to 2006? I am not sure if Ford has fixed this problem, but it was a major problem that led to owners replacing differentials every 30k miles!! Air suspension on those RRs have a tendency to fail too, esp. in cold weather. And no, it is NOT one of the best off-roader ever made...not even close!

But, it is a very luxurious vehicle indeed and has a classic/elegant design to it that a Lexus or Toyota will never match in my lifetime. (LX570/TLC200 shape is just so uninspiring!)

IMHO, in general, i prefer good old steel springs and regular gas shocks over those electronic suspensions, esp. in a vehicle that goes off-road.

But, back on topic, for pure off-road capability, i believe that the 2009 and 2010 4runner Trail Edition to be superior to the Land Cruiser (TLC100 and TLC200) over most (if not all) terrain...stock for stock. For longevity and durability, i would take the Land Cruiser for sure. For on-road ride and safety, i would take the TLC also.

And i would take a LX470/TLC100 over the new LX570/TLC200 if off-road was my main concern. But, if i stay on-road most of the time and my off-road involves only camping (or similar activities), then i would get TLC200/LX570. The new Mark Levinson surround system in the LX570 is to die for!! :)

I don't like TLC80 too much simply because it is old with high mileage...and a good one used will be hard to find...as is high maintenance costs. Only 10% or less came over to the USA with lockers...so, those are even harder to find and when you do find it, they are likely already abused by the previous owner on the trails. Then, you add in that the TLC80 did not come with the safety technology that is available today (side airbags, stability control, LATCH, etc.). Now, if i wanted a high maintenance cost and an off-road beater, then i would rather get a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon JK 4-door instead and the Jeep comes with a nice factory warranty.

My opinion.
