LC80 Wheels+ Tundra Brakes?

I have an opportunity to purchase a set of LC80 wheels. My question is that will they clear over the Tundra calipers sans wheel spacers? I really would like these wheels because they are a 0 offset which means I could dump my spacers. But if they don't clear the caliper, I don't intend on running them with the spacers.

LC80's don't clear the 231's without some grinding. not sure about the 199mm calipers though...

LC80 wheels do not clear the 199s without grinding either...but the good news is that you only need a 1/4 inch spacer to fix that problem. The other option is to just let the caliper dig a groove out of the inside of the wheel...I know that sounds harsh but it worked for me with no issues and it only took a couple of miles to be completely smooth again. I now run the spacers though...cause it was a pretty awful sounding experience....

I'm reviving this thread. My front brakes are completely shot and its time to upgrade. My issue is I need to know what kind of grinding id have to do on the back of my lc80s to make the 231 calipers fit. I'm not really wanting to run spacers but if I can get away with using 1/4" ones I'll do it for now. Just don't want to ruin my wheels mostly. I know the information is out there, and ive seen it all, but it's real spotty. Can someone give me the part number for the 231s. And I'm pretty sure using a 2006 tudra for reference will get me the right parts. I just gotta figure all this stuff out today so I'm in a rush. Feel like a no0b askin these questions lol.

For the 231's tell them you want the 13WL, I believe the 199s are GL- The ones I have are from an 06 not sure if its the same for all years

I am installing my 199's behind my LC80 wheels within the week. (As long as my stainless brake lines show up!!!!) I can give you more details once it's done. I do have some 1/8" slip spacers fro the front I will use if I have to. Grinding wheels is sketchy to me... I know you are looking for the 231's but you may want to consider the 199s if you can clear them without spacers on the LC80 wheels.

Well my dilemma is that I got to get this stuff on in the next couple days. My passenger front rotor is being ate up (grinding) from lack of pad. Its not very drivable right now and it's my dd, so I gotta get it fixed asap. I have a feeling the 231s are gonna require too much work with the lc80s.

Aw bummer. Yah I think your right. I know that Vic, who started this thread has 231's. He was going to buy some LC80 wheels and went to test fit before he purchased them. He bailed cause they would be too much work and didnt want spacers....

Yea.. 199s might be what I go with. It's still an upgrade over stock I guess. Whats the part number on those 199s you got.

Well my iPhone won't let me edit my post, keeps crashing.. Anyways, ordered spacers from AllPro. No more worries with 231s lol

Grinding must be done for the 231's to fit. It is not that bad at all though, a couple of passes with an aluminum grinding disk on the inside of the spokes and they cleared the 231's. Took maybe 10 minutes for each wheel.

Sounds like you've done this.. Got any pictures of the wheels after grinding them down?

No, I didn't take any pics. It was fairly simple to do, just grind a few mm's off the inside of the spokes. It will be easy to see when you look at the back of the wheel. One tip is to make sure to use a grinding disc made for aluminum and not just metal.

^ Wouldn't grinding a crease in the back of your spokes compromise the strength of the wheel? I would think so... especially if you wheel, where strength of your parts is always something you consider when making an upgrade. I would think the small groove you grind out to clear the brakes would be a definite failure point if the wheels were to ever fail. My .02.
