Not sure if I would spend that type of coin on “nerf steps” or similar running boards that just bolt to the factory step points. They can’t be used as sliders… I would consider getting proper sliders over something like that as the difference in strength is significant.

That said, if you never go off-road, I guess it doesn’t really matter.

They're way cheaper than N-Fabs, which are functionally the same...

I agree, If I lived in an area where I could utilize sliders, I would have definitely gone that route..

Thanks! I think I sold the wife on doing it after showing her your pictures. I was going to do it anyway, but that way I don't catch as much hell when boxes start showing up.

Just be aware the rockers will not line up with the LE rear fender molding. The rockers match up with front fender molding for a smooth transition. But, rear fender molding will have a large offset with the rockers.

Thanks for pointing this out. I'd only be doing this if I need to put steps on. It appears the steps take your attention away from the mismatch.

Hi all, this is a super informative thread. We picked up a 2019 Limited Nightshade a week ago and are exploring options for running boards.

I love jbinmd's solution, as the stock rocker panels on the Limited are too low IMO (I don't offroad but just from a visual standpoint - at least with the Nightshade the black rocker panels don't stand out as much). With that said, the swapping rocker panels solution looks to cost about an extra $400 for the rocker conversion alone - if possible I would like to try a lower cost solution.

I was looking for boards that are not super wide so they don't stick out too much. I found a couple listings for 4" boards made by APS - I can only find them for sale on RunningBoardWarehouse.com and RealTruck.com

I have two hesitations:
1) I have not seen a real-life picture of these installed on a 4Runner Limited (they also claim the parts are the same for all 4Runner trims which I would like to verify before ordering)
2) The reviews for both RunningBoardWarehouse and RealTruck are absolutely terrible. I wouldn't order from them unless someone on here has dealt with them and has good feedback.

Regarding number 1 above, if they show that the same board fits all models of 4runner, I would expect that they hang as low as the factory ones. So you might want to verify all of that first...

The reason I personally chose the Go Rhino ones, is because the OP of this thread showed us how they fit high and tight. I'd look for ones that specifically say they don't fit the Limited if you change the rocker trim.

I did something very similar, except not sliders since I don't need them at this point.

Trail rocker trim and Go Rhino nerf bars which fit high and tight. Gained a ton of clearance over the OEM rockers and running boards.

This is exactly what I’m looking for! Could you show more side profile shots of this?
