LE TR4 with DayStar

Hello!

Been lurking for quite awhile now, and just purchased a new LE TR4. I’m a former Jeep guy, so please excuse the ignorance in my questions. In addition, before flaming me, I have searched extensively and have been reading a lot. I’m about to pull the trigger on the following setup:

• DayStar KT09134BK

• Stock 20” wheels with either Nitto Terra Grappler 275/60R20 or Cooper A/T3s in the same size.

• SpiderTraxx spacers

• SPC/Light Racing adjustable upper control arms (read that some members had issues with DayStar installed at full flex and binding as well).

My questions:

I have/Do/Plan to trail my TR4. Nothing extreme. I know my limits, but I also think that the stock TR4 is fairly capable as is. I was on the trail the second day, and I was presently surprised. It isn’t my CJ7, but it had no issues.

Will the DayStar kit take away from this ability? I have never went with just a lift (I called it a budget lift in the Jeep world) and have always done suspension. Should I just bite the bullet and go with a full get-up like Icon Stage I or Toytec Ultimate? Keep in mind, I don’t plan on doing anything that I can’t already do stock. The advantage with the DayStar is that I can keep the XREAS (not that I want to) and it’s not something I want to mess with under warranty.

What size spacers do I need? I want my jeep to have the stance like UFG8R’s and ThirdToy’s (Awesome looks guys!!).

So that’s it! I’m just looking for some recent input on people’s impression with the DayStar kit and if anyone has trailed the TR4 mildly with or around the same set up as I plan on.

I would consider adding some underbody armor. either pick up a TE fuel skid, or go all out with RCI/Budbuilt/Shrockworks. I left a sizeable dent in the fuel tank skid in CO last year.

For a nicer stance I would ditch the 20's and get some beefier tires; that will helps with offroad grip and improve the stance look. may save you some spacer money. tires for the 17" rims are more in choice and lower in dollar as well. And more side wall to work with when you air down.

XREAS did fine for me on the trails around Ouray, CO. just needed better skids or height. some sliders are also highly recommended. with the LE I would cut the rockers, or if you have some money to burn, go to the TE rockers.

I agree with the 17" for trail purposes but was trying to go for a different cosmetic look altogether on this project. In addition, I already have the wheels so I can put that money else where on body armor or suspension if needed down the road. But in all, I agree, that a stock TR4 does OK on the trail. I'm hoping to get some extra clearance, more protection on the underside (while removing those horrendous stock running boards), and a better looking TR4 when it's all said and done.

come on you are a Jeeper you know damn well those sliders arent even close to being built! lol welcome aboard. I wouldnt recommend a spacer lift for anything beyond aesthetics. Can you wheel with it? sure but I would look into something more like a toytec ultimate, OME or ICON. Same thing with big tires on the factory 20s. Great for the mall but I would get wider and a taller sidewall for off road.... just mu opinion. I kept my JK for wheelin :bigok:

Agreed on all points...I would have loved to have both in the garage. But every good thing comes to an end. This venture is 85% on road. I agree on the suspension, and think its coming post warranty, but like the idea of having a warrantied daily driver that can pick through the trails on the weekend.

You won't void your warranty by switching out your suspension to something beefier. I did mine at 2 Mo old and haven't looked back. I like the way the toytec ultimate rides better than the xreas too. Only wish I had gone big first before buying new AT tires and wheels then deciding to go whole hog and I fully blame my mod bug on this forum so... you have been warned!

Hondaluvr - what did you end up going with? I just purchased the KT09134 daystar 2.5" spacer lift and I'm also going to keep my stock 20" wheels. I was wondering what size tires you went with if you did end up installing this same daystar lift. Thanks!
