Leaking out back of transfer case

I appear to have a leak out the back of the transfer case, from right where the rear driveshaft meets. How hard is this to fix, and in the mean time, how hard is it to refill the oil in it, and what should I use? Does it share oil with the transmission? What is the proper lubrication for it?

I'm not really knowledgeable in cars... So please forgive the stupid questions...

It does not seem to be a fast leak, as I don't get puddles, but the underside of the body has a good coating of wet oil, and this seems to be the source.

Try using some degreaser and clean everything off.do a 50 / 50 mix in a spray bottle and go to town on the tranny. If you do the engine take care to to get the distributor or intake wet. And after your done rinsing it off start up the truck immediately and the heat will help dry it off.

The case has its own fill plug. And you may need to see if the seal on the back of the case has well become your leak point. thats only 4 bolts.

I'm going to see a friend tomorrow that is a mechanic, and I want to drive my truck out there, problem is that I think the transfer case has gotten low, as last time I drove it felt like the 4wd shifer was getting hot. I want to fill it just to be safe, and I need to know what to put in there, as well as where the filler cap is. I'd like to check the transmission too, as I know there are transmission problems, and I want to be sure I'm not just low on oil....

Where are the transmission and transfer case fill plugs, and what do I fill them with?

Once you get under there, you'll find them. The Tranny plug is on the driver's side of the case. (14-17 mm) It's the lone 'bolt' on the side, nearer the top than the bottom. There has to be a similar on on the case. (look at the 'front' of the case.)

Not sure what to fill it with, mine has no bookage.
