Leaky water pump?

Hey everone. So last night I crawled under my 87 4runner (with 22RE), to get a better understanding of how a IFS lift works, and I noticed that my front diff is wet. I looked at it further, and I realized that the green fluid dripping off it is coolant. Since the rad is farther forward and the skid plate looks clean, my best guess is that it is the water pump. Any other guesses? How hard is it to change the water pump? I looked at my LCE catalog and they list a water pump at like 60 bucks, so its not going to break the bank (god knows valentines day is lol ) anything else I should change or look at when im replacing it? How long will it take? What would cause the water pump to go? Thanks guys, Jake Engel

Usually when the water pump fails it becomes noisy because of too much freeplay in it's bearing.When engine is off if there is movement when you try to pull the water pump pulley then it's bad.Also they begin to leak coolant there.

you have 22RE right? changing water pump is easy. Its right behind the fan, the fan is basically connected to it. I changed it when changing timing chain.

FYI, when you replace it, make sure the impeller doesnt hit on the inside! I got a defective new water pump and the fan on the inside was the wrong side so it was hitting inside.

I had a headache when I first bought my 84 on figuring out why it was overheating. Finally, it was running, but I was spewing water out from near the water pump. However, after I changed it, I had the same problem. It was actually a tiny ass heater hose. The only one I didn't replace that burst.
Check your hoses before you go tearing into the water pump.

thanks guys. good call on the hoses, that might be it. but i dont know as work ran late last night sdo couldnt pull off the skid plate and check, and tonight is valentines with the girlfriend, so friday night i will yank off whatever i can and check, thanks so very much. anyone want any pics of it?
