This morning I checked the forum for tips on cleaning and conditioning leather seats. I'd always had fabric interiors and I didn't have a clue as to how to go about this task.
Among the suggested brands I found in the forum (Zymol, Lexol, Meguiar's), I was only able to locate the Meguiar's Gold Class Cleaner/Conditioner. So I have to confess that I bought the Meguiar's by default. But I couldn't be happier with the end result!
I bought the Meguiar's in the spray bottle form because I was worried about not being able to apply the cleaner evenly. My only (minor) complaint is that this stuff went everywhere when I sprayed it (due to wind -- when the wind was calm it went where I wanted it to) but it was easy to fix. Most of the time it just went to other seats or the door trim. No problem.
When I started on the seats, they were dull, dry and threatening to crack. After 15 or 20 minutes (I did two applications), the seats looked and felt like they just came from the factory. Maybe even better! I don't think I remember them being as soft and smooth as they are now. Now I'm interested to see how long they stay this way. Professionals say to condition leather every six months but I'll probably do it every month or two.
On a side note, I found Meguiar's Leather Cleaning Wipes, similar to Lysol disinfectant wipes. I stayed away from them because it seemed too much like a cop out that wouldn't give me the results I wanted. Has anyone tried them? What kind of results did you get?
