leather seats in sport edition

hello everybody

I've got a 2004 sport edition with leather seats that i thought were part of the package that came with my runner, but i have found on numerous posts that the SE,s didn't come from the factory with leather seats. My seats do not have any zippers on the sides and appear to be just like the seats in the limited. Could they have taken out the leather seats from a limited once in the U.S. or how does this process work. Thanks for any info.

from what i understand the sport edition's were not made with leather seats and they were never supposed to be....but i have seen one 4th gen 'runner sport edition with leather seats....the owner was at our t4r fest in maryland last weekend and he said that when he bought it the toyota dealership said they "messed up" and he got lucky.....so i guess it could happen.

It can be installed aftermarket. Cn easily cost 1K to 1200

In another thread, someone pointed out that the Southeast Region was offering leather seats as a Port Installed Option (PIO). PIO's, such as floor mats and wheel locks, are genuine Toyota accessories and are listed on the original sticker. PIO's are added to a car before the sticker is printed and the car is allocated to a dealer.

I don't know how the PIO leather seats get installed, but I imagine they look as good as the factory seats. They're also covered by the same bumper-to-bumper warranty.

the main thing with aftermarket leather seats is the zipper on the sides. imo... not very nice looking at all.

I have aftermarket leather in my 04 SR5, no zippers or clips, and when compared to Limited leather, looks exactly the same (design and all). Leather seat covers will however will have zippers and clips.

Not true, there are many kits out there without the zippers. Katzkin, Auto Leather Inc, leatherseats.com, Barrett Leathers and a couple other ones make them without the zippers. Classic Soft Trim has the zippers though. Toyota didn't design the seats for the perfect "Limited" leather replacement in the 4Runner. The Limited leather has a recessed back pocket seperate from the seat cover whereas the cloth seats on the SR5/SE, have a pocket built into the seat cover itself. The Camry/Highlander have cloth seats with a separate back pocket so when those have aftermarket leather installed, the separate back pocket is replaced by one lined by vinyl/leather. It's virtually impossible to tell apart from factory leather in those cars..

Most of the time, the leather is port installed or the owner gets the leather installed afterwards.

Here is the southeast --- Leather seats are an option on the 4Runner Sport Editions. They are installed at port if I am not mistaken and are genuine toyota factory seats. I test drove a few SE's with leather before I purchased mine (w/o leather). It was also listed as an option when pricing out an SE on toyota's website for the 05's

I had my 05 sport shipped to me, and the dealer said they could put a sunroof and leather in their but they obviously didnt know they didnt come from the dealer that way because they had to send it back and get them both put in from the factory because they sold it to me and it was in the contract. I call my 4R a limited/sport and am trying to get a thing for the side to take the spot where it says sport edition now.

Any Sport Edition with leather seats are not made by the factory. You cannot send a vehicle back after it has left the factory. SET(South East Toyota) or GST(Gulf States Toyota) dealers might put it as an option but it is not done by the factory.

I work for Denso and we are Toyota's number one vendor/supplier. I am familiar with the option packages and what I am telling you is true.

I have leather in my SE but I had it installed afterwards by CST because it is not an option from the factory. Now you can outfit an SR5 with the Limited rims and leather steering wheel with controls and leather shift knob but that is it.

Custom leather seats do not have zipper on the sides. I've had it done in other ars in the past.

in the northeast i know that only limited's come with leather
i know i checked, anyways i got a sr5 v8 and i installed leather and its identical to the leather they put in the Sequoia, its rougher
not as smooth as the limited

Lexus grade is sales talk. It is very good quality but it is not the same. Don't worry you will like it. The zipper is based on the leather manufacturer. Some come with it and others don't. CST leather does. It is due to the fact that they based their pattern on the stock cloth seats which have a zipper as well.

Read one of the posts above. Some do and some don't have zippers it depends on the manufacturer. Mine is custom done by CST and it has the zippers.

In other words, years down the road if the leather starts looking really bad, could you remove the leather and have like new cloth seats?

Nope, the cloth has to be taken off for the leater to install properly, or else it'll be loose.

Yes, they make those too, but aftermarket kits usually match the color of the leather, so if you get tan seats, they'll give you tan door covers. I'm sure you could request the black ones if you get another color for the seats.

where they sent it doesnt matter to me, the outcome was that I got my nice pretty dark smoke leather with no zippers.
