Leaving 5th gen...hello 4th gen!

Today, I pulled the trigger on a 4th gen trail edition. Even after trading in my 08 SE for a 5th gen LTD, I would always lurk around the web looking for a 4th gen TE. Well, I finally found what I was looking for and said goodbye to my 5th gen LTD. No regrets at all. No looking back. The 5th gen is a nice car, but the 4th gen suits me better. About the only things I will miss are the push button start and the one touch door lock/unlock.

I've wanted a 2009 TE ever since they came out, but I wasn't in a position financially to get one when they were available. Now things are better and I can get what I've wanted. :guitar3:

Honestly, after the 1st week or so, I have not been happy with the 5th gen. Just seemed like bad feng shui for me. Bad energy/vibe from my 5th gen. The multi-mode 4WD is probably the thing I liked the most even though my LTD had fulltime 4WD. 5th gen seemed more cumbersome when out on the road.

I made the switch and didn't complain I loved my 5th Gen Trail I just didn't like making the payments on something that I didn't drive much I do miss it and will probably get a Blizzard Pearl SR5 and lift it with the same rims I had on my Trail once used 5th gen prices come way down.

Thanks! Definitely rare and in the great condition that it is in is a bonus. Now time for some new treads and eventually a new nav unit. The Tom Tom that comes with the 09 trail is a bit inadequate and clumsy to use.

No need to ***** or bash the 5th gen. It just wasn't for me...multiple little issues that didn't suit me. Overall the 5th gen is a good SUV for many people.

Being a Toyota Salesman for the last 13 years, I personally like the 4th gen better too. For me it just works better overal : especially getting worse gas mileage than the 5th gen LOL

Having used GoodYear Wrangler SA on my 08 SE and my 2011 5th gen LTD, I have to say I got better gas mileage from my SE than my LTD (used 265/70 17 which is stock size for 5th gen SR5 and Trail). I plan on putting the GY SA on my 09 TE in a few weeks.

Having an 08 SR5 and 11 SR5 these are my observations

Interior fit and finish = 4th Gen
Exterior = 5th Gen
Climate Control = 5th Gen
Stock Radio = 5th Gen (still pretty bad though)
Ride = 5th Gen
Room and comfort = 5th Gen
Handling = 4th Gen
4wd System = 4th Gen
4.0L performance = wash
Gas mileage = 5th Gen (still good on my 4th Gen for a BOF truck)
LED tail lights = 4th Gen!!!!
Headlight performance = 5th Gen. They put out better light than the projector lights on my 4th Gen
Body Cladding = 4th. I actually liked the plastic cladding to give doors some protection

Both have advantages/disadvantages. Both are still BOF and have rear window that goes down so all is well!

Is there a difference in the 09 Trail Edition and the previous 4th Gen Sport Editions? Scooped hood, XREAS, rail steps and racks, wheels, etc

The 4th gen TE is an SR5 with 16" wheels, Bilsteins, water-resistant seats, and rear locker (still maintains center locker with multi-mode 4WD). Has the roof rails and tubular side steps of an SE. No XREAS, no hood scoop, no telescoping steering wheel, no heated outside mirrors, and no power seats, that the 4th gen SE has. Also SE had 17inch wheels.
