leaving head lights on?

I recently bought an 04 SR5. With other vehicles I have had if I leave my head lights on there will some buzzer or some other noise to let me know if I haven't turned my headlights off after I have pulled the key out. Is this normal?

Another issue is at night the dash light will come on automatically, not the headlights. In the past vehicles I have had that do this automatically will also turn on the lights. Usually the headlight and dash lights work together.
Is this normal for a 2004 4Runner?

You can leave your headlights on, on the 4Runner, and it will shut them off automatically after 60 seconds or so. If you hit the lock button on your remote twice, it will shut them off as well. Whenever you fire up your truck, they will automatically come back on

My headlight will turn off 20 seconds after I lock the vehicle.

But if I'll just turn it on, without doing some shifting, and when I lock it, the headlight will stay on until battery weakens.

Edit: maybe not 20 secs, but it will auto turn off

Actually, the early '03's did not have this 'feature'. Mine doesn't. Apparently, there were too many complaints about poor gauge visibility in daylight, so that Toyota came out with a TSB to modify vehicle so dash lights were on when ever vehicle was started. Some time in '04, this 'feature' became standard.

FWIW, I leave my lights on all the time - never turn them off. As I see it, they act as my daytime running lights during the day and double as a safety feature. In fact, the only lights that I consiously turn on or off as the situation warrants are my fog lights.

I also never turn my headlight switch off. If I open my rear hatch after getting out the headlights seem to stay on until the one-hour timer kicks in, although I haven't tested it. I think it's an hour, it's mentioned in the owners manual, any lights left on will turn off after an hour.
