LED Bar in Hood Scoop Write-Up (3rd gen 4Runner)

When I first saw this I thought it was a great idea but maybe not for me. Now that I have seen more pics from the OP I might have to do this as well. I have been looking at options for extra light. Right now I have the Hella 500ff which I love and love the look. But I would like more light; my town has a light ordinance so there are no street lights in my small mountain town. I would like more light to catch the deer and elk that cross the road. My buddy nailed an Elk in his Tundra and totalled it.

I dont have access to a welder. Any ideas for making a bracket without welding?

I just used stock aluminum bar and do not have an "L" shaped bracket.

Recently got a PM about how the light bar is holding up in the hood scoop so I thought I would update this thread.

Answer: Light bar still works perfect, no problems...front end got a make-over and OTRATTW switches added a while ago.

Still running the same unit, have definitely thought about changing it up as it doesn’t add much usable light since I installed my LS460 projectors but have another lighting project to tackle first...teaser pic below .

Yes, yes there does. I have added myself to the not-yet-established waiting list. I would like to retain the stock scoop mesh as well.

Bump & what do folks think about deconstructing these cheapo (2 for $21) Amazon bars? That seems to be the majority of the cost involved.....

For me this would be a fun/novelty mod and not for real, useful illumination

If you don't mind doing the fab/wiring work then sure I would say it is worth it for fun/novelty. I get lots of compliments and am still like it. I will say trying to adjust these style lights after they are mounted is not easy depending on what kind of access you have behind your bumper...otherwise you are looking at taking the headlights out to adjust them or removing them completely then adjusting and reinstalling. If just doing for novelty/fun you might consider some led strips or something that doesn't throw much light. If you do this though please post up pics! Good luck.

Gotcha...I stand by my prior comment with exception it isn't that difficult to adjust the angle of the light.

I also thought about these, mainly because the mounting looks like it would be much easier than some other options and it's not a vampire on your wallet. Kinda worried about how well they'll hold up to heat given they're probably some cheap chinese shit, but maybe the passing wind will keep them cool?
