LED fog light

Hello all,

I want to replace my stock halogen fog lights (9006) with LED ones. I want to ask did anyone on this forum try that yet? and how does the LED fog light compare to the stock one in terms of light intensity?

I was looking around online and found that most 9006 LED lights are <$40, is that the right price range? I was expecting the price to be much higher.

I haven't seen anyone else do this yet (IIRC), but I had an LED for my high beams (I think it was aesthetic, not functional) and didn't work well at all. But for a fog, if you get the right one, it could be very helpful!

Its a waste of money, leds as fogs will not have the lumens like stock halogen, if you want looks more than function then get it, if you want more function get some yellow fog bulbs, halogen or hid for the same price give more lumens.

I am in the process of getting red LED's in my fogs. Of course not for function just for the evil appearance!

Ehh no not so much. They aren't flashing on and off, or have the blue coinciding. Some guys have them down here in their trucks. No issues.

LED's will have less output than your stock halogens, so you probably shouldn't do it unless it's simply to get a color coming out of the housings. DDM Tuning's HID kit is the same price range, and they're great, you should look into them! i have 3000k DDMs, but you can get pretty much any color tone you want!

I never really liked the HIDs in my fog lights. Yes the light output from LED fogs is useless but the color match is nice. Im running the DDM 18x5050 LEDs. They are about $10 each.

For those with HID in their fog light housing: I know the fog light reflector is not that great and it lacks a projector so isn't using HID as fog light produce a lot of glare? I don't want to blind everybody on the road.

If it is a true HID foglight then it will have a good cutoff and not cause glare above it where it will do harm by reflecting of rain and fog.

Unless you're talking about these ones .

I have installed 3 sets of them - all on my dual-purpose motorcycles. And they are amazing. I routinely use them if I get stuck driving late at night. Obviously I try to be as courteous as possible and dim or shut off when other cars approach. But the light output is insane - and the price is cheap compared to other options. But... they're only about a 2" diameter. 3600 lumens each.

A 9006 LED light <$40 is a high price now. There are more available much less than this price. A 400lumen one can get around $15 now.

HID's or LED fogs must be for "pretty". If you want FUNCTIONAL fogs, you'll need a 3000k or 2500k lamp and I'm not sure you'll see HID's or LED's in that range.

I've dealt with a lot of dark, wet or dark, snowy nights and anything from the stock halogen lamps (~3500k) on up are garbage for seeing that short, wide throw that fog lights are supposed to provide. The lower Kelvin lamps provide much better contrast than higher K lamps, I don't give a ratz azz WHAT MythBusters says.
