LED Headlight bulbs

Has anyone swapped out their headlight bulbs, high and low beam, with led bulbs? Does anyone know the lumen level for the high and low beams (with projectors)? One last thing is what brand bulbs did you use and their lumen level?

I read that some have have fans on the bulbs to dissipate heat and others don't. Their are so many brands to choose from it's really hard to know your getting a reliable product.

I am very experienced with LED flashlight manufactures and I know most use CREE brand leds in their lights. I actually have a fenix TK70 light mounted in my cargo area with mag light mounts. This light is great and cranks out 2200 lumen in its highest mode. It's also nice to have 4 different output levels.

Any input on head light led bulbs would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I've swapped my 9005's from VLED's (1800lm) to augment my TRS HIDs in the H11's. they offer bright but diffuse light. they are useful in illuminating any reflecting surface, road signs are visible from about a half mile, and animal eye flash (Deer) is very noticeable.

the unit I have has the fans, the next gen 2000lm+ does not have them. they have survived a -40°F winter.

Thanks for the reply

the 9005 are the high beams or low? What color output are your hids? It hard to tell from the pictures on the site. I want the bright white. Want to stay away from purple and blue color. I also want to change the bulbs on my arb deluxe bumper fog lights with a yellowish led possibly.

9005 is high beam,

my TRS Morimotos are 5000 Kelvin. (5k from here out)

I have 5k, that's commonly called crystal or arctic white, no hint of blue. 6k is where you start getting the "cool" white or tinge of blue, 6k+ is where your in to the solid blues.

These are the next gen units from mine, mine only run 1800 lumens, these are rated at 3000, 9005 9145 H10 HB3 5K MT-G2 3000LM LED HEADLIGHT FOG LIGHT DRL HIGH BEAM | 1 PAIR

they also promise a more focused beam pattern, if true they would be a welcome upgrade.

Also on a side note, according to your sig your looking for rigid light bars? have you looked at the Totron / Hanma bars that alot of folks here run? much cheaper more or less similar output.

I haven't checked those brands yet. My friend is a Rigid light dealer so im probably just going to get one through him. Rigid just seems to be made very well. I just want a stout, reliable, highest quality bar I can get. I'm trying to decide whether to get the gobi stealth RR or the light bar...I plan to mount the light bar on my ARB bumper and not on the rack. Thanks for the info on the light color btw. I was looking a VLED today and almost made the purchase. How much of an increase are these LED bulbs vs a Silver Star bulb? The stock projector lights are already really bright. I've been getting the high beam flash from others since I bought the vehicle. I just noticed that I have what looks like dried condensation on the inside of the head light. I have the extended warranty and hope that I can get Toyota to replace the head lamps before the warranty expires January 1st 2015.

I should have bought the Gobi stealth rack when they were only selling for $1000 shipped..now its $1400 which makes me hesitate.... That's why I've been looking for a used one.

Thanks Again

OP I was wondering about the same issue. Im a fan of LED lighting, and i have a Rigid Lightbar on my roof rack, however my headlights are stock and wanted to look for something of an upgrade. Ive seen multiple options, sort of like this:

Putco LED Headlight Bulbs - Best Price on PlasmaGlow LED Headlight Conversion Kit

They are expensive but the increase in light, better spread and bulb life should be worth it. Anyone out there with this sort of upgrade?

I run the Lifetime LED's in my '03 4th gen during the spring/summer/fall (swapped out to HIR's for the winter to melt the ice off the headlights). They put out 2200 lumens from each of my 9005 and 9006 bulbs. They have fans, survived clay mud, coal mud, and being drowned in water without issue.

You can find the thread on TacomaWorld for them here, bought them from Wired Installations using the code taco_15_off for a 15% discount ($45 off for both pairs of bulbs). Also if you have any issues, contact kd8bao (Henry) on the TacomaWorld forum. He's been awesome with any issues that people have had.

Good luck!

If you take a look at the TW thread I linked, there are a multitude of pics and questions asked/answered in there. Saves you some time lol

hard to find output of projectors online. but yes i have seen the tacoma ones. just wanted to see what it looks like on the 4runner because all headlights are different

Take a look at my build thread, I have some pics on there. It's much the same as the Tacoma lights but a little higher cutoff
