LED replacements, Door lamps, pics

These are not the puddle lamps on the outside mirrors.

My SR5 has lamps in the lower corner of each door. Some evidently do not, they must be part of a package.

They pry out fairly easily from the rh edge.



Disconnect.



The fixture has this housing on the top which has to come off to get to the lamp. PITA.



There is a latch on each end of the housing. Push it in to release each end. Pay attention to how it came off. After replacing the bulb it snaps back into place. Did I say PITA?





It's no wonder the owner's manual doesn't tell you how to do this!

Interesting. So the door lamp bulbs are accessible using a small flathead screwdriver then huh? I assumed you'd have to remove the door panel to gain access..

how tough was the install? Would u attempt it again in any way differently?

You can easily pop the encasing off with a flathead. I would advise you wrap a shirt or thin cloth around the flathead so that nothing scrapes.

The biggest pain is changing the side mirror lights (not the blinkers but the floodlights) Have to take off the mirror plate and unscrew the motor to get to the bulb. My friend figured it out after a good 20 minutes or so. Enjoy!

The fixture is cake to get out once you know how. Changing the bulb is a bit tedious, but yes, that's how I'll do the other doors.
EDIT: 3 minutes apiece after you know how.

Now that I have them all in, and tested at night, here's my opinion (on the door lights)

If you want them for sexy, white light, do it. If you had hoped for better/more illumination as I did, you won't get it - in this case.

The bulb is oriented fore-and-aft in the door, and does not point its light away from the door, as do the bulbs in the map/dome/hatch lights.

If you want them for sexy, white light, do it. If you had hoped for better/more illumination as I did, you won't get it - in this case.

Get a 360* firing led bulb and put in there. Cant use a neo wedge or anything you get at parts store. Like this..... 2 V-LEDS WHITE 194 13 LED LIGHT BULBS 158 168 2825

Has any SR5 owner, whose 4Runner does not have these lights, popped the plastic cover off to see if it's wired for them?
