I did this from the inside with the hatch closed. Pics are of the pass. side lamp.
This is what it looks like when it's out. Note the brass spring.
Using a thin blade screwdriver, pry up the rh edge.
Using a second screwdriver, work it open a little more.
The idea now is to gently push the thin screwdriver into the brass spring, and the lamp will pop out easily.
Driver side lamp is same, spring clip is also on the rh side of the lamp.
