LED Tail Lights/ Plastic Intake

The LED Tail lights do look nicer however, I wonder how much longer LEDS will outlast a conventional bulb. The owners manual mentions that if more than a couple LED's within the unit go out, by law, depending what state you live in you may be required to replace the tail light assembly.

I hate to think what a new LED tail light assembly will cost ($200+)? With a conventional bulb setup at most you are not out more than $10 per tail assembly for a total of $20 as in recent years they have been using halogen bulbs for tail lamps. I have never had to replace a tail light lamp sooner than 3 -5 years and spending $20 every 4 years is cheaper than spending a couple hundered even if the LED's last 10 years.

The item of most concern however is the plastic Intake runners when 8 to 10 years of heat takes it's toll and the plastic dries out and cracks stopping your vehicle dead in it's tracks. I checked prices and a new intake from Toyota would run you about 700-800 dollars. I guess for most people this will not be an issue especially if you are always trading up every 5 years. I still own a Toyota Van that I bought new in 1989.

The intake should last the life of the vehicle if there is no overheating.

And the LEDs should last longer than the life of the car, unless they have been overdriven past spec to get more brightness at the cost of shorter life, or unless Toyota has not done enough to protect them from the very high voltage transients frequently found in automotive 12v systems.
 
The plastic intake I agree with 100%, as others said, they probably will last a long time, I just don't see why they had to switch to plastic. This and their other weight saving techniques are part of the reason I got an 02 Runner instead of a new Tacoma when I wrecked my 00 Runner. As for the LED's, I have LED taillights on my motorcycle and they should last a very long time, and they are brighter.

Plastic isolates heat better. Cool, dense air is best.

I don't see there being a significant difference in the temparature of outside air entering your engine through amuminum or plastic. For the piece of mind of having metal I will sacrifice that tiny bit of efficiency.

Aluminum conducts heat very nicely. An aluminum intake assembly will get very hot from the heads and other areas it is bolted to. It will then pre-heat the air that comes in.

Since the plastic won't conduct heat the incoming air will not be pre-heated resulting in a denser fuel-air mixture and a cooler running engine.
