LED Tail lights

I recently replaced the stock tail light bulbs with LED Bulbs and every time my head lights come on, my ABS light shows on my dash. Is there a fix for this? any help would be appreciated.

led bulb in your tailight is very dangerous. Reg light bulb reflects off reflector in your taillight thus creating more light. LED does not reflect off reflector, thats why its dangerous during daytime.
 
That sounds strange. Are you sure you have the 7443 (dual contact and dual intensity) and not the 7440 (single/single)? I have LED tail lights from superbrightleds and I don't have that problem. I also can't understand why gvan1988 says having LED lights in your tails dangerous. I think mine are very bright during the day.

It depends on the design of the replacement LED's. I installed a pair and immediately removed them because they were only bright when viewed directly into the bulb. The factory bulbs emit light around the sides of the bulb as well and it gets diffused by the reflector within the tail lamp housing. The LED's I installed were very bright but only projected straight out. The rest of the housing remained very dim.

As far as the OP's problem with the ABS light, that's like saying -I replaced my porch light and everytime I open my front door my doorbell goes off. ???

It just doesn't fit- but hey, I was wrong once back in the 80's...:)

That makes more sense. I have these which have a 360 degree beam pattern, making it a similar look to the stock bulbs.
OP: What lights are you using?

which one did you get, 7440 or 7443? what about turn signals? i'm interested in getting led bulb for my 12' SR5. thanks in advance
 
I purchased the 7443's. Once they were installed everytime my head lights came on, the ABS light would come on. Brought it to toyota and they thought it was the brake switch behind the brake pedal. Then they stated that the LED lights draw to much power when in fact when you install them, they draw less power. Placed the stock bulbs back in and the ABS light has not come back on. Trying to find the answer if a resistor is needed and which color wires go to the turn signal (hyper flashing with LED bulbs) and tail lights. It is a 2011 4 runner and have not found the answer yet.:redbrick:

according to this, you need to install flasher/resistor. that's why your ABS light came on after installation.
 
I know that with the turn signals, you need a resistor or flasher (if they make a flasher for the 5th gen. I have the 7443s (dual intensity) - part number 7443-R45-T and I don't need anything extra - just plug them in and go. After I installed them, I have had no problems. I took a pic of the lights I'm using. Did you order yours from superbrightleds?

Hi,

Can you clarify with your set up. Are you saying with the dual intensity LED bulbs, you don't need the resistor or flashers to prevent the hyperflash on the signal lights?

I used your part number 7443-R45-T, on superbrightleds and nothing came up. Did you mean 7443-X45-T?

Did you try any similar bulbs for the front? I found this one and they have a built in resistor. 1156-x26-CBT. Don't know if this works.

I have those same LEDs in mine. I have had them there for a year now. The visibility in day and night, and from all angles is better than the factory bulb. I have had no problems with the ABS light ever. You are correct you do not need a resistor for the tail lights, they are plug and play. I got mine through superbriteleds also.
 
Probably need a load resistor.

I've always thought it was kind of silly to change to LED taillight/signal light bulbs for this exact reason - adding a resistor increases the current running through the circuit, thereby negating the power-saving benefit of installing the LEDs in the first place. It's true that they will last much longer than incandescent bulbs, but incandescent bulbs are pretty dang cheap to replace anyway.

any photos to see the brightness?
 
How do you take off the tail lights? I see that there is two 10mm bolts, I took them off but couldn't get the tail light to come off.
