LEDs/ARB/DRLs

The ARB bull bar is on its way (hopefully). I've been putting some thought into installing it, and now wonder what to do about the DRL's. I have heard of ARB turn signal lenses melting when people used those light housings for DRL's.

So, I'm assuming I'll need to follow one of the following steps:
1. Have the dealer disable the DRL's via the scanner
2. Disable the DRL's myself by pulling the wire from the computer to the flasher
3. Replace the flasher with the non-DRL flasher
4. Use LED's for the DRL/turn signal bulb in the ARB (I suppose this will require the use of resistors)
5. Replace the flasher with an electronic flasher

Option #4 is currently my favorite, as this would allow me to keep the DRL's. Has anyone successfully replaced their front (or rear) turn signals with LED's?

Also, for option #5, does anyone know if the electronic flasher listed on the superbrightleds page for "newer toyotas" will work with the 4Runner? (CF-18)

yes i have leds in all of my lights, drl's, turn, brake inside and out. lol i like leds. also yes for option 5 for the flasher. i have that same one it works great no problems. its a pain to get to but well worth it when you change it.

Please answer another question or two for me. Do/did you have DRL's? When you went to the new electronic flasher, did you need anything additional (wiring)? I ask because I seem to recall the OEM non-DRL flasher has an extra bit of wiring the OEM DRL flasher does not have.

no i dont have the drl's, but i want to get them. i dont think there is any extra wiring. just a change of a relay. its already wired. on a relay there is a (no) and (nc). normally open and normally closed. correct me if im wrong anyone. but i think non-drl is just using the (no) side and when u use the turn signal it turns the (no) to closed. and with the drl, it uses both, daytime its on the (nc) side and when you turn ur lights on it switches to the (no) side and acts as stated above.

If I recall, DRL equipped trucks from the factory have a different bulb setup. I think it was a dual filament bulb and socket. Trucks that were converted from non-DRL to DRL with the relay swap exprienced shorter bulb life.

umm, not to sure. well if thats the case with and led bulb it wont matter. its a shorter bulb life because its on more then before. hense daytime running. :biggrin2: but the led wont burn out. so no worries.

Here's the thread with possible shorter bulb life I was referring to. I have an '06 so I'm not sure if there's any difference from the '03-05 trucks.
