Leds are in, Very disappointed...

So today I went ahead and started my LED interior install, done light and map lights look awsome. Shifter letters look good, the window switch and ect button look ok.

But the HVAC control look terrible, wicked hot spots were the bulbs are. It looks bad I must say...

After this I didnt even bother to do the gauges.

I used superbright LEDS HP single 74. Would the xHP3 make the output better??

Or is there a diffrent brand others are using that dont give off hot spots. Please share

I've personally have gone with v-leds, I haven't done the gauges though but everything else has been really good.
 
You issue is that you used single LED's. They will always have hot spots, because light it literally only going in one direction. You need to get 74's that have multiple LED's, and pointing to the sides as well. That will fix you right up.

ya i was thinking the same thing, but what about the gauges since its a #24 bulb ?

I dont see the triple led bulbs on superbright or v-leds ..

The only place I could find them was autolumination.com

They work fine, but I wish the '99-newer gauges used the 194's...cause they come in tons of good configurations.

Look for the Matrix 5-led, it's listed as a #24....in their #74 section.
 
believe me man i know how disappointing that is, those are some pretty nasty hot spots too. I would try some wax paper. Ive only heard of people doing this ive never seen it and Ive wanted to try this but have been too busy. but yeah i guess if you get some good wax paper and stick it in front of the bulb it will spread it out more evenly

other than that you may have to order from autolumination. People say they are terrible bulbs and yes i have had a few burn out from there however; (i know im goona jinks myself for saying this) but I still have some in my gauges from them and its been way over a year! in fact ive had some from superbright already burn out on me,

this mod is one of my favorites as far as change and looks but oh man how much i hate doing it!
 
I orderd one of these to add to the hvac, WHITE 9 LED STRIP LIGHT 12V KAWASAKI NINJA ZX-10R 6R 7R - eBay (item 280307858649 end time Feb-17-11 23:09:48 PST)

I think it will work well. Going to wire it in to work with the other 2 #74 bulbs, also going to ditch the high power superbright ones and go with regular LEDS.


As for the gauges im going to try the autolumination Triple bulb.

Someone on the other forum mentioned putting some scoth tape on the top of the bulb to dispurse the light off to the sides more.. Or I might try a dap of high temp clear silicone at the top of the bulb. Ill see what works and keep the thread updated.
 
looks like you've got a good plan, your HVAC controls are different then mine but im still trying to figure out how your going to fit that light strip in there?? Ill be interested to see the results though

i had a different tri-LED from Autolumination and it was one of the first to burn out, I would just recommend ordering extra just in case, but i duno i haven't tried those ones in the picture so you may be golden?

on a side note, the newer corollas have a white display on the gauges, I wonder if they are using some type of LED? i may check into this

My girl has a 06 rav4, here gauges are white . They look awsome, no hotspots at all . But im sure its just a all out better design ...

The LED strip off ebay was cheap, so if it doesnt work I wont be to upset. Ill use it somewere.
Getting it in there wont be bad, but they wires from the two bulbs that are there are very tight, not sure what im going to do.

I have a few diffrent bulb options on thier way.
