LED's to illuminate the driver/passenger foot wells

I never got past the planning stage for this mod for my 1999 4R, but here is the schematic I worked on on how I was going to wire it up.

I am trying now to get around to doing this on my 2007 4R. So many mods, so little time...:bash:

The negative "trigger" wire in my pic is a light green wire with black stripe, located at the driver side junction box connector 1H pin 2 (cowl wire bundle). Also, you can get the same wire at connector 1A pin 7 (roof wire bundle).

Hmm and the better deal is...

I just used two blue led leds from any auto parts store for like 9 bucks each. They had self adhesive on back and stuck them under seat. At night it reallly lights things up. I also have leds in my plexiglass sub box. So i ran them both to a rocker switch to turn them on when i want to.

I haven't done it with my 4runner yet but I did put LED's under my dash in my eclipse and under my car

I like this idea... I think I might do this to my ride when i get some time.

I'd like to have the lights on the same circuit at the dome light so they are instantly on with the door being opened. I was also thinking about having a switch so I can turn them on/off separately...is this going to be difficult for a novice?

spiggie, you can also just splice into the dome light wiring, at the dome light itself, footwell lights can then be used just like the dome. very easy to do.

I'll wire them into the fuse box, so when I turn my lights on, they come on too.

I no this is a super old thread but I'm into this idea. I want to put some LEDs in my foot wells. I would like to wire them up so they turned on when my lights turned on. Could u explain to me how u did this?

IN theory, it's easy to do. When you get the LEDs, you should basically have 2 wires to connect (a + for power and a - ground). The + , you should tap into headlight wire and the - I believe you can connect to the body (metal). I don't have the schematics to your particular runner, but I'm sure someone can chime in on where to look for those connections/wires.

I plan on doing this too, but I want an LED in each footwell for "ambiente" light (not bright). Good luck!

I would wire them into a relay off of the dome light switch. This way you can set them to come on only when the dome light comes on.
