My check engine light came on (about a week before the puddle issue, so they are non-related) and jiffy lube's OBDII scanner read that it was the left bank o2 sensor. I had them erase the code becuase from what I know about cars it isn't going to do much other than lower my gas mileage, if at all. Is this an important issue? Is it an expensive fix? Can it be done by an idiot such as myself? :arrow:

I cannot speak for your engine, but if it is bank 1 sensor 1, then yes your fuel economy will drop because your air to fuel ratio will be off. But if it is the sensor after the Cat bank 1 sensor 2, then this is not used by the ECU but it is an indication of your catalyst being bad. Again I do not know how O2 sensors you have and they did not tell much info other then it is on the driver

for example....i am experiencing a drop in mileage, and the cel just came on. but with 150k on it, and a k&n in there since 60k, i have come to the conclusion that it is just a dirty maf that i will be cleaning tonight.

It will be either a PO136 or a PO141, depending if it is the sensor or the built in heater element.
i am pretty sure that if the engine light goes out, then the code was erased. however, if you have not fixed the issue, then the code (engine light) should return shortly.
i removed my maf last night and gave it a good cleaning, and that took care of my cel. however, i had a code PO171 which points towards bank 1 running lean. a dirty maf is a very very common problem for this code and a simple removal and spray down with a plastic safe electrical cleaner usually does the trick.
my repair cost me the $4.19 for a can of cleaner and about 20 minutes start to finish to clean and replace.
