Left my lights on!

I was at a baseball game a few weeks ago and I believe I left my lights on. I came back to my 4runner after the game and turned it on and i proceeded to turn my lights on. But then I noticed the light switch had been left on. But the lights were actually off. Do the 4runners have a safety check system that automatically turns your lights off if you leave them on after turning your car off? I have an 07 SR5.

I left my lights on at a costco and when I came back it was off. I'm so glad this is a feature! A lot of my friends leave there lights on and their batteries are dead when they come back. I laugh and they need a jump.

btw I have an 03.

Yes they do . Not sure about every model but I leave mine on and never has an issue.

i'm interested in this also...i have a 2004 and in the manual it says that the lights will shut off after a certain time..i have seen the lights stay on for 15 or so minutes so i do't trust the manual....i will have to spend some time in the garage with my stop watch, i guess? anyone engineers have this system worked out? thanks

Yes, headlights auto off if left on, something like after 30-60 seconds. Also, lights will shut off immediately if you hit lock twice with your keyless fob.

However, if the keys remain in the ignition the lights will not auto off.

Thanks for the input everyone. This info. is good to know. Very nice feature to have. I was unaware of it. It's always nice to find out these little things on these vehicles. Just makes me happier every single time when I find something out like this that I chose a 4runner.

Yes...if I leave my headlights on after I shut off the vehicle, the lights will automatically turn off around 30 seconds.

However when I start the car again, my Trip A & B get reset, clock & radio presets get erased & I have to Re-program my driver window & rear glass.

If I leave my parking lights on after I shut off the vehicle, once I open the door, it will turn off instantly.

You've got an issue. Take it in. I use the auto-off feature all the time and never lose programming.

Another 'neat-to-know' is that if you shut the car off, flip the lights off and then back on quickly they stay on. Nice if your stopped but need to stay illuminated.

Interiors light turn off after 20 minutes. Actually, power is cut from the lights after 20 minutes regardless if they're on or off. Got stuck in a highway closure once and had to sleep in the 4Runner for a few hours until they reopened the highway, tried my lights after a nap... no lights until I opened the door or clicked the key.

As CJ3Flyr said, if you turn the lights back on right away, it'll stay on. My parking lights stayed on for the entire duration when it was closed.
