Left-Right springs.?

The stock struts and springs have colored paint dabs on them. Left vs right. What is different?

Related...I'm putting Tacoma springs onto my stock struts to see if it softens the ride a little. Anybody know if the Taco springs are also Left-Right specific?

I don't know if they are or not but if one is slightly taller it should go driver side

Why is the driver side longer?

To compensate for more weight on driver side. Fuel tank, battery, etc.

Then aftermarket sets also come with two lengths...say, 5100s?

And...is the suspension geometry the same on both sides? The difference in shocks and springs is just to compensate for sag?

Trying to understand it all better...

Suspension geometry and shocks are the same on both sides, the left side springs are a little taller to compensate for uneven weight distribution. This weight includes the battery, front differential and drive shaft, transfer case, steering column and fuel tank.

and in my case an extra 220 pound driver

on mine the transfer case is more centerd to pass side

but yes they are often specific if made by a quality builder. I ordered 99 talls for my 4runner, from Toyota, and they were marked specific per side. Years back some of the aftermarket ones were know to sag to one side after time, some even came with a little spacer for the driver side

but if you lay them out, and they are new, and some are longer/taller those are the driver side
