So as many know, I have a 1997 5 speed, with 205k on the clock, and its going to need some work when I get back. I am hoping only about 1k worth of work. Would it be worth in your opinion to hock my 1997 and spring for the 2000? I need opinions, please and thank you.

2000 LTD 4Runner 4WD 188,000 miles

I have read the buyers guide...just need to get some pictures of the frame, and see if the timing belt has been done...

Sounds like he's pretty desperate to sell. Take him $3000, he'll take it. Obvisously this is assuming it runs and drives good. Seems like $3k is a steal.

It doesn't look very well taken care of to me. I don't think you will want to give up the 5spd either. I have had the auto and would never go back from my 5spd for a multitude of reasons.

I guess the question I am trying to hunt down while I am waiting on more pics from this guy is...would it be worth it in the long haul. Just going back and forth a lot since the 4R will be the DD. Because I wont be able to afford to DD the Tundra lifted on 37s gas prices. I humbly am trying to get the opinons of you here because you guys have some of the sickest rigs I have ever seen.

Heres a little more info that I know of on my current 4R if it helps.
1997
Pros- 5 speed, good frame, solid interior.
Cons- 6x6 inch square needs to be cut out of the body fix the surface rust, back hatch does not latch(pretty confident its a latch cleaning issue), and runs, but runs awfully....not sure if it needs another timing belt or if it is the injector or what, needs a solid bit of maintenance(didnt get any done as it was a project I picked up before I left)

While I am sure this one probably needs the standard maint. Would it be worth it for 2750 or 3k and sell the other for cost? If I get more pictures from him I will post them....

Just keep in mind that the auto 4runners do not get good gas mileage. You probably would only save a small amount between driving the 4Runner over the Tundra. From the sound of it, it sounds like yours has some optional work that would need to be done to it. I would just concentrate on getting it to run right which is fairly cheap and then save the timing belt and rust repair for when you have time. First and foremost I would run a can or two of your favorite injector cleaner through it. Sometimes that is just enough.

Sounds like a plan....I may just do that....probably a lot easier than having 4 vehicles in my driveway/garage.

Check Car Fax too, I don't like the way that hood is fitting.
You have to see it in person. I prefer a stick myself.
